Maloney will announce the renaming of the corner at East 77th Street and Lexington Avenue at a news conference Monday. It will be called “Mayor Edward I. Koch” street.
The congresswoman also will recommend to the MTA that the subway station at that corner be renamed “Mayor Ed Koch subway station.”
Koch called it his favorite stop on the subway, where he often campaigned.
Officials have introduced legislation in the City Council to rename the subway station.
Koch died Friday of congestive heart failure at age 88. His funeral is Monday.
I would rather have it named for people that really deserve it. Like the transit officers who put their lives on the line every day protecting us in that station. Or the NYPD cops who protect us every day in the streets above the station.
This is basic Hakarat Hatov. Do it to them while they are alive, not after they dies protecting us.
As for Koch – let him stay buried in the goyish cemetary.
Maybe he should be buried in that subway station.
He had a mehitza built around his plot, it is completely kosher, as was the kavira.
I am always surprised by how many angry, bitter, narrow minded, ethnocentric, and provincial people blog on this site.
Refuah Sheimah to all.
What a crime all these nasty comment appear on VIN. I never realized how bitter and uneducated my fellow Frum brothers and sisters are. I am proud Koch was a Jew. I am not proud about mean comments here which the world reads and quotes. If you don’t have anything positive to say, be quiet and read Torah. It may help you one day realize what is important in life.

Wow, that’s out sooner after death than even our current Gedolim books.
