The hearing, called by U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.), will include testimony from American Christian, Muslim, and Jewish leaders about anti-Semitism as a key means by which radical, anti-democratic movements gain power, and how anti-Semitism is a threat not only to Jews but to all people , and to the very foundations of democracy.
Citing recent increases in reported incidents of anti-Semitism in Britain and France, Rep. Smith, who also co-chairs the Helsinki Commission, the congressional body monitoring human rights, told the JTA, ” It is getting demonstrably worse all over the world, but especially in Europe. The Middle East is a cauldron of anti-Semitic hate, but much of that hatred is spilling out through the Muslim Diaspora and through satellite television.”
“This is one of the times when far right and far left meet at the end of the circle,” said Smith.
Among those testifying from the U.S. and Europe include witnesses from academia, religious freedom organizations and democratic advocacy groups.
Chris Smith (R-N.J.) is a true אוהב ישראל so is Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.)
However it should be distinction between anti-Semitism and legitimate anti-Israeli policies one can be legitimate the other not.
