Jerusalem – Partner Communications, the parent company of the Orange service provider, has agreed to pay hundreds of thousands of shekels to a man who had cancer after talking on cellular phones purchased from the company.

YNETnews.com (http://bit.ly/149wvuW) is reporting that Partners officials are calling the payout a ‘gesture of goodwill,’ while continuing to reject the man’s claim that prolonged use of their cell phones contributed to his lymphoma.
The plaintiff, a 50 year-old attorney, filed the lawsuit in 2010, demanding Partners pay him millions of dollars after an aggressive lymphoma developed in his left ear.
According to the law suit, the disease broke out due to frequent use by the man of two phones purchased from the company–one in 2003, the other in 2007. The man, it explains, “used the phones over a prolonged time in a ‘safe room’ in his house.”
The suit stated that the company was liable because it failed to warn the man that using a cell phone in a ‘safe room’ emits dangerous radiation with greater intensity.
A medical opinion attached to the complaint alleged there was a basis for the man’s claim.
A spokesman for Partners Communications said, “The company keeps strict adherence to the compliance with the provisions and guidelines of the World Health Organization, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Communications, and other relevant factors. Prosecution found no scientific or medical truth, and it was rejected by the court. Beyond the letter of the law, and given the personal story of the plaintiff, the company decided on an exceptional human gesture. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Shame the company capitulated to that avaricious lawyer (I know, I know, that’s redundant). There is absolutely no evidence that mobile phones cause any harm and the rapacious chiloni would never have won in any trial.

For all you educated people out there, the correct spelling is liar.
But seriously, there is an issue. Cell phones do emit radio waves that are not proven harmless. The industry would die if people knew of any risk so there is loads of money being spent to keep things quiet.
In a location with poor reception (think safe room) the emitted signal ramps up to keep the connection. His claim is that they failed to warn about the added risk in a safe room and he has a point. I will take a lesson from this to use my phone less when getting poor reception and perhaps keep it further from my ear by using speakerphone or a bluetooth.
