The Obama administration is canceling tours of the White House beginning Saturday, citing staffing reductions prompted by automatic budget cuts that began to take effect last Friday.
The White House is a popular destination for tourists, especially during the spring break season.
Callers to the White House Visitors Office information line are told that tours already planned will not be rescheduled.
Officials said the cancellations would not affect the White House Easter Egg Roll on April 1.
The automatic spending cuts — known in Washington parlance as the sequester — are hitting a myriad of accounts from the Pentagon to education grants.
The White House said the tours would be canceled until further notice.

what a shame for america -can’t afford tours for the white house ?? !! why not cut anadditional 80% from the welfare rolls across the board and country and use the $aved funds for american goodwill rather than nurture the parasites ?
This is nothing more than a PR gimmick. Obama has ordered other agencies to cut back in ways that show budget shortages even when not necessary as part of his publicity stunt.

Cut out one golfing weekend and that will more than cover the cost of one years worth of tours. Wish Bo would make the decisions instead of Hussein Obummer.
People will stop going to Washington to tour. They look forward to visit the White House. I thought that the White House actually belongs to the People of the USA. NERVE!!!

What a PR stunt. That’s all Obama is good for: PR stunts and Pomp.
There are other things to cut- like his various vacations and golfing trips that exceed costs far beyond other presidents. Plus Michelle Obama’s wardrobe- she thinks she is a movie star! She went to that Hollywood event a couple of weeks ago- why? what presidential thing did it accomplish? Imagine the cost of her security and travel expenses!
