Jerusalem – The U.N. children’s agency is urging Israel to reform its policies of military detention for Palestinian minors, saying authorities often violate their rights.

A UNICEF report Wednesday says its conclusions are based on interviews with 400 minors arrested and jailed by Israel as well as in meetings with lawyers and Israeli officials.
Abuses include arrest of minors in nighttime raids, interrogations without lawyers while some were shackled, and threats of abuse.
An Israeli official from the military advocate’s office says many minors are often manipulated by militant groups into carrying out deadly attacks on civilians. He says parents can be present throughout the legal process. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military protocol.
The foreign ministry said Israel is cooperating with UNICEF to apply its recommendations.
These little monkfish need no privilege.
And I implore UNICEF to urge the Syrian regime to stop massacring its own people, over 100,000,000 people displaced to date. Over 75,000 dead. Men, women, & children, and not a word from the all so caaaaaring UN.
Instead of worrying about what happens when they are being arrested, rather worry about them not doing those pathetic acts to cause arrests!
Wasn’t it UNICEF the organization that equated Zionism with racism all those years ago back in the 1970s? Didn’t the United States withdraw its funding from UNICEF in protest at that resolution?
At that time I was working at the American Embassy in Tel Aviv, and Mrs Sally Lewis, the ambassador’s wife (she was very new in post at the time), was valiantly trying to sell UNICEF greetings cards among the embassy staff. She could not understand the zero take up among the local employees – until the reasons were explained to her.
Sally Lewis and her husband Sam were probably the best diplomatic assets the United States’ Department of State has ever had in Israel.
If you’re old enough to carry out a violent attack you are old enough to be arrested.
Let UNICEF go bark at Syria where children are being indiscriminately blown up.
I would throw away the key on these future terrorists, suicide bombers & murderers!
Half an hour every day they should be lined up against a wall and be pelted with rocks. Give them the visceral experience of what they are doing to others.
