New York – A storm system moving from the Midwest toward the east coast is expected to bring snow and rain to the New York City area.

National Weather Service meteorologist Joey Picca says the brunt of the storm is likely to hit New York City and the Tristate area on Wednesday and continue into early Thursday.
The storm is expected to bring light to moderate snowfall totaling 3 to 5 inches in New York City. Eastern portions of Long Island like Suffolk County could see even heavier snowfall of up to 5 to 7 inches.
Picca says the storm will start as heavy rain and progress into moderate snowfall Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Moderate rain could continue into Friday.
