Delacruz was accompanied by Fernando Mateo, the president of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.
“He explained to the them how sad and sorry he was about the circumstances, how he wished he would have died instead of the young couple, how he has a wife who’s pregnant and three children,” Mateo told the New York Post (http://bit.ly/YQ0Zyr).

Mateo said the couple’s family does not fault Delacruz for what happened. “They told him, ‘Go on with your life. This was meant to be. This is what God wanted. This is what our religion tells us. And you have no culpability in what happened.”

The family said they are people of faith who embrace the notion that God has a plan for each person. “And the plan was that he remained alive and that [God] took [the couple], and that there’s nothing we can do about that.”

Choking back tears, Delacruz said, “I have a three-year-old baby, and when I see him running around at home, I’ve got to cry.” The driver of 10 years, who doesn’t remember what happened that night, said he is traumatized by the accident and likely will not resume his driving career.

I don’t get it why the media assumes this guy is so innocent. There is an investigation to be completed. Did he pass the stop sign? Did he speed as well? After all Acevedo had the right of way, of course im saying he is a culprit for driving like an animal but that dosent mean this taxi guy is so pure.

Just heart wrenching, I’m ashamed to admit the driver of the taxi, once I heard that he was okay, I did not think about. But, it’s just horrible, the guilt he must feel, I hope he will be able to get over this with time.

I could understand, a little bit, if the Livery-cab driver wash rushing slightly.
After all, they were on the way to a Hospital fearing for the unborn baby’s life due to possible complications.

Kol hakavod for this driver for having the decency and mentchlichkeit,to come and make a shivah call and tell the grieving family how sorry he is.
Contrast this to the frum guy who ran over and killed a non jew in Monticello 2 yrs ago and fled the scene, did he go to the family and aplogize?,or the young frum girl who killed last year in Flatbush a chinese delivery guy while texting during driving, can’t recall having her go and apologize to the family.
of course we all know the dirty secret why this is so,it is better left unsaid

I am not from NY, obviously, and my heart aches for these niftar kedoshim. Let me make one statement, and it is not meant to imply anything in this particular case, but, I have noticed that frum folks from “in town” (NY/NJ) seem to have a very strange habit of NOT wearing seat belts, ever, and NOT buckling up their precious children. Double belting, no car seats, no belting at all, I have seen it over and over again with frum folks. Again, I do not know anything about this case, nor am implying anything, but people, I implore you to PLEASE wear your seat belts, even when in a taxi. I was just in NY and took a livery service and the first thing I did was buckle up. I noticed the driver was NOT buckled up at the end of the ride. NY taxi laws state that every taxi MUST have working seatbelts for all riders. Please, use them!!!! Hashem watches over every Jew, but Hashem also gave man the ability to devise technology to keep us safer.

May everyone have a good, peaceful and safe Shabbos, and may Klal Yisrael know no more sorrow.

i think it was mentschlik for this man to pay his respects to the grieving family. i think he was being sincere. and i think he will carry this incident with him for the rest of his life. i think to a certain degree we have to have rachmanous on him. G-d chose him to be a part of this terrible trauma. 🙁

Seems like a very good man with a lot of courage to me. We need to honestly ask ourselves, if the roles were reversed, how many of us good, frum, yidden would act with such mentshlikiet?

I am on the Internet 24/6. I’m Nihkshol in a lot of Bitul Zman.

But after reading some of the comments here, I can understand why Rabbonim are so against the Net.

The comments here are Niderig and Gemein. The Net, and anonymous commenting brings out the worst in people. At least if you say something stupid to Yankel in the Mikva, you run the risk of Yankel thinking you’re an idiot. No such risk on the Internet.

And the people who solicit and publish these comments, No comment.

And me, the reader and commenter of this Narishkeit, I’m stam a Nar and a sucker.
