Warsaw, Poland – Poland’s prime minister said Tuesday his government has drafted new regulations that would reduce the suffering of animals during slaughter, including for the needs of religious groups like Jews and Muslims.

Poland is covered by European Union laws allowing for ritual slaughter, but the country’s own regulations say that an animal must be stunned before slaughter, including the ritual practice of having its throat slit and bleeding to death.
Donald Tusk said his government wants to reconcile these approaches and ban the most drastic slaughter methods. He offered no details and it remains to be seen whether the regulations will win support from lawmakers.
Ritual slaughter of animals is an important export earner for Poland, with markets in Israel and Muslim countries. It also offers thousands of jobs, at a time when Poland’s jobless rate soared to 14.3 percent. It has continued in Poland under the EU regulations.
Last year, on a motion from animal rights groups, a special court said that slaughter without prior stunning is against Poland’s law. The ruling drew protests from religious minorities, who have met with the Cabinet ministers to say their religious rights were violated.
Very interesting. They care about suffering of the animals after killing 3,500,000 jews.
So, the Poles will tolerate stunning prior to shechita; that’s so nice and Polish of them. Well, what about gassing?
It’s about animals concerned for the rights of animals. Similar in many ways to the profesional courtesy rule practiced between lawyers.
This is the same Poland which most of its citizens say they would not like to have a Jewish neighbor.
The same Poland that is worried more about animals being killed then millions of Jews that were killed. Its hard to say for Jews in Poland where they should go now but remember the USA is the greatest place to live in.
Blessed is the USA for letting in immigrants.
40% of Israel kosher meat is coming from Poland and 100% of Belgium is taking from Poland in so is For France
There is what to worry about: Poles will readily outlaw Jewish shchita even though they would not outlaw the slaughter of Jews. But the passage near the end of the article “Ritual slaughter of animals is an important export earner for Poland, with markets in Israel and Muslim countries” makes me confident that a good compromise will be found: Poles are people who would sell their own families for modest amounts of money, often for vodka.
America= home of the brave. Poland= home of the pauper.
They’re obviously not trying to help out the Jews. If you’ve been following the news, a lot of non-kosher beef in Europe has been determined to be horse meat. Poland seems to be a source of this. Without kashrut supervision, their meat industry is in trouble. It’s all about money, as usual.
Any Jew who chooses to live in Poland, after all of the centuries of bloodshed and hatred, should have his or her head examined. Shoin.
