Queens, NY – In an exclusive interview from Rikers Island where he is being held without bond on three counts of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run driver, Julio Acevedo, said he is “deeply sorry” for his role in the accident, but that “accidents happen,” and he feels he is being made out to be a “monster.”

WABC7NEWYORK (http://bit.ly/11HlP7Y) is reporting that Acevedo admits he is “sad” about what happened, but also said he “couldn’t stop,” and that the driver of the cab carrying the Williamsburg family needs to be asked “why” he ran the stop sign.
Acevedo, once again, insisted he was “not speeding,” and that he had “not” been drinking before the accident occurred.
Acevedo also reiterated that he fled the scene because of his distrust for the system that incarcerated him for a decade on a 1987 murder conviction that was later vacated.
Acevedo said that, upon seeing how he is being treated now, he wishes he had remained at the scene, and that his only request is that he be “treated fairly.”
ROT you animal….Countles witnesses have come forth to say otherwise.
…and, you have a track record (besides the murder rap which was vacated)
We do not need his words. The accident investigation will tell us what we want to know.
No one denies the cab had the stop sign. However Mr Acevedo according to wittnesses and from AI (accident investigation) was speeding. He also has a past history of DWI, and he left the scene of an accident where there were obvious injuries. Did I forget to mention his previous conviction for murder.
Yes, he is certainly terrified that he will never get out again. But, that is likely the only truth to his statement. He could not have created such carnage had he not been going 77 miles per hour.
What about that stupid story of someone shooting at him? That’s what he said in the begining of why he sped at 70mph
I dont know i think i also have the same problem im always getting shot at
Are there any camres in the area? That would help to see if the other driver stopped or not
Come On people back me up dont you also get shot at everyday?????
Please don’t be angry…but I actually feel sorry for him. I have and I do pray for the victims’
friends & family. And I don’t believe anything he said except that he was scared. I think this man has no value of life…no remorse…his only education is how “the system” works. To his credit he gave himself up. I hope now he’ll just surrender the truth openly…where he was; where he was going; if he was drunk; if he was speeding – ask the family for forgiveness.
He’s right. It’s an accident.
He should be charged with speeding and leaving the scene of an accident. That’s it. The law now is being changed that if you leave the scene, it can be presumed that you were drunk; but that isnt the law now.
Half of us have gone 60mph+ on city streets, especially those of us between ages 20 and 35.
1 year in prison is enough of a deterrent for most ordinary citizens to avoid such behavior. There is no reason for more jail time
America’s obsession in jailing people for long periods of time is inhuman. and frankly its against torah…we are on par with third world countries in that respect…i think this whole episode is a huge accident…this guy didn’t deliberately get into an accident…
perhaps his irresponsibility got him into this mess.
