State Rep. John Barnes Jr. is introducing his Survivors of Abduction Act on Tuesday. It would provide Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight at least $25,000 a year in reparations for the years they were restrained and tuition, fees and living expenses at a public college.

The Cleveland Democrat says legislators of both parties have expressed support for the bill, which would bear the women’s names and be covered by taxpayers.

Ariel Castro was charged with rape and kidnapping last month after the women dramatically escaped from his Cleveland home. His attorney says he’ll plead not guilty.

This makes no sense. If they qualify based on income, then they get the welfare checks anyway. And if they don’t –let’s say they get jobs (unlikely) and have a good income–why should they get free money? Just because someone did something bad to them? And not only that, but not just to assist them from now on, to also give them money for the the time they were held?

Come on. It’s getting to the point where anytime something bad happens to someone, the taxpayers have to reward them. But only if it’s politically helpful to someone. That’s why the gov’t gives tons of money to victims of Sandy, 9/11, etc., but if someone’s house was destroyed in some other way, or if someone died (ch”v) in some other tragedy, they get nothing.

Sell the creep’s house and split all monies amongst the victims.

Why should the taxpayer’s be left holding the bag!

Listen, the lawmaker wants to get re-elected and this is his feel good way of getting noticed. Woe to the politicians who oppose this bill. What a joke!

They deserve this money, since police messed up big time! They should have been found long time ago, but police was probably busy giving tickets to soccer moms, instead of doing their jobs probably.

Such uncaring postings. Understand that these women spent 10 years chained to a wall, were repeatedly beaten, raped and starved, forced to have miscarriages and then to bear the abuser’s child. Now, take a look at the women and girls in your life, and thank HaShem that none of them have had to suffer this. The least we can do as a civilized society is to take care of those who need our help, and these poor women will need so very much for the rest of their lives.
