JTA (http://bit.ly/12tpjbh) reports that Stav also took on those who have been harsh critics over the past few weeks.

When asked about comments from Rabbi Ovadia Yosef two weeks ago calling him “evil” and a “dangerous” to Judaism, the rabbinate and the Torah, Stav said that the “people” of Israel don’t want a Judaism that speaks in “threats and curses,” but rather in “ways of peace.”

Stav indirectly commented on Rabbi Metzger’s recent arrest, saying that the rabbinate needs to be ruled by “God fearing people,” as opposed to “corrupt politicians.”

Stave said he is not interested in changing Jewish law, only in making the rabbinate more “user-friendly.”

I hope he wins…it doesnt matter to me if he wears a streimel or a hat ect. what matters is will he make a kiddush hahsem or not, right now the rabbinate is a scary unwelcoming place to be at…if a israeli walks in they throw papers at him rather then hand it with a smile ect. it need a major change someone who understands and cares for people…it shouldnt be a chasideshe melalve malkeh what it is now. change is good.

He is a real mentsch and show respect for others who disagree with him…a lot more than the really disgusting comments made about him last week by a sefardeshe rav who was once highly regarded as as both a leading talmid chacham (his nickname) and political leader. His comment and the extremist comments of other rabbonim on both sides of the poltical spectrum highlight the need to get rabbonim out of politics and politicians out of religious matters which is sometime hard to do in a “Jewish State”.

Israel is becoming a clamorous sort. The fact is that nice intelligent minds like Rabbi Stav are outed as being different while the chief like Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef wants to put talc powder on the hearts of jews with his aggressive stances on anything from human suffering being less than excusable to his own preference of remaining withdrawn from the hope of the enlightened. This nation is in a wicked time.

I like Stav, but I wish the rumors about Grossman being in the running were true. While he may be chasidish he is a rarity hardly seen in today’s world. He has respect AND love for ALL Jews no matter their background
