Flatbush, NY – A 20 year old young woman from Borough Park was the city’s latest knockout assault victim, after being attacked this afternoon in broad daylight as she walked to visit a friend in Flatbush.

The attack took place this afternoon at 2:45 PM on MacDonald Avenue between Bay Parkway and Avenue M, according to newly elected City Council member Chaim Deutsch founder of Flatbush Shomrim.
“She saw an individual walking towards her and felt nervous,” Deutsch told VIN News. “As he passed by her the victim said that she felt relieved that nothing had happened and that was when he struck her with a blow to the back of the head.”
As the young woman fell to the ground, her attacker fled. The young woman got up and continued on to her destination, which was on nearby E3rd Street in Flatbush. The victim contacted Shomrim after Shabbos, who urged her to call 911 and to file a police report.
“I have spoken with the 66th precinct and asked them to beef up patrols and to do everything possible to protect the area,” said Detusch. “I also reached out to Curtis Sliwa of the Guardian Angels and shared my concerns, asking him to patrol the area, especially on Shabbos and to continue being visible in the area.”
Both Deutsch and Assemblyman Dov Hikind were among those who paid a visit to the victim who was not seriously injured in the attack. Hikind described the young woman as “very slight and very sweet.”
“You just take one look at her and say why on earth would anyone want to bother someone like her?” asked Hikind. “A 20 year old girl? A 78 year old woman? A 72 year old woman? Your heart goes out to this girl when you look at her and it is mind boggling to imagine the cowardice it takes to walk over to a young girl and punch her in the head.”
Deutsch advised all area residents to avoid walking alone, if possible, to walk in well populated areas, and to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
Hikind urged any potential victims to call the authorities immediately if they are attacked, even on Shabbos.
“Halachically, I have been told that you have every right to do so if something like this takes place. Who knows, maybe if this had been reported immediately we could have gotten this guy.”
Hikind also continued to advocate for the use of video cameras as a valuable security measure.
“We have been talking about putting them up for a long time,” said Hikind. “At least now maybe it will finally happen. In cases like this, video cameras can do a lot of good.”
Dov, You ain’t no JFK, & and you certainly ain’t no Rabbi. You may not be wrong but it’s not your domain. If you have a psak halacha, disclose who it is.
Hikind may have good intentions but when advising on halacha he should qute a rav. It’s not good enough to say “I was told that you’re allowed to call o, shabbos.
I urge everyone to consult a competent rav before being mechalel shabbos.
Obviously one should not wait till something bad happens, rather ask a rav now so in case of emergency you’ll know what to do
First of all my Heart goes out for theKnockout Victim and I pray for her speedy recovery. I praise Mr Chaim Duetch And Assemblyman Hikind for their work and support for the Victim and for speaking out and asking for more patrol in the area. Regarding calling the Cops on Shabbos though Hikind was told that Halachicly there’s No Problem, still I feel that everyone needs to ask his local Rabbi on such a matter.
Like in Europe before the Shoah
Hikind is 100% right you do call the police and its 1000$ ‘Al Pi Halacha’… anyone who thinks differently belongs to a different religion other than Judaism..
I don’t think Dov Hikind wants anyone to be Mechalel Shabbos ch”v. But what he does want is for everyone to take it as serious as it can be. And because SO FAR ALL COMENTS OVER HERE IS LIKE WOW!!! This means that its going to get the “Talk of Town” this week. And Mission Accomplished!!!
dov hikind is right! ask any ruv its allowed to call police on shabbos, if this doesnt stop it will lead to pekiyach nefesh where jews will be killed on the streets like it was in germany 1941
Good. Luck. To Braton
On his new job
Lets see. How he Handel this
I praise Assemblyman Dov Hikind for being the one Advocating for the Use of Security Cameras and For his Continuing efforts Advocating for it. In Case’s like these Violence Nockou This is definitely a
one should ask their own rov, but i learned that talking on a plain telephone is not a melachah, only assur as uvdin d’chol, so not chillul Shabbos at all in a sakanah case like this
Where does sliwa come in to the picture?
so we have to have someone to die chv’s in order people to call police on shabbat? do you really think Dov is a kid on your block that is playing with Shabbat? common guys,, time to grow up and Think Before you come on a public blog and attack a person who devoted his life to help us Jews here in Brooklyn, let’s cut him some slack.. He’d never say something like that before consulting with rabbinical scholars..
A knockout punch can be fatal! it’s sofek pikuach nefesh! this perp can do it again to someone else and should be put in a cage. It’s like a loose wild animal on the street hurting people that you’re definitely allowed to be mechalel shabbos to save other people from this danger.
come home to Israel
You clowns are worried about being Mechalel Shabbos while old women and Jews are being attacked? When will it be OK to be Mechalel Shabbos, when someone is killed?
Similar to first aid and for courses, there needs to be a self defense course and people should carry pepper spray. I grew up in a tough neighborhood and can say AWARENESS OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS and people around you is often the best way to get out of way of harm. Even thugs notice it when you notice them and they tend to back off when they lose that ‘surprise’ element.
I hope she waited for the zman of Rabbenu Tam before calling the cops.
I didn’t see any response from elected officials (or any so-called leaders) when multiple knockouts occurred in Crown Heights, including children. Somehow, a bunch of crazy Jews living in a hostile environment “deserve” everything they get. Where was the outrage for us over the past few weeks?
There is no doubt that one must violate the Shabbos in this case. I was once walking in Israel on Shabbos in the winter and an elderly man yelled help! He was shivering all over and was blue in his face. I and two others rushed into his house to help him. The shivering man asked that we call an ambulance for him. The other two men said they had to ask their rabbi if they could use the phone to call an ambulance because the man was not unconscious. They said their rabbi lived far away and they went to ask their rabbi. I immediately called the ambulance and saved the man’s life. The case with this woman is the same thing. The halacha clearly says that even if there is a doubt one violates the Shabbos. Calling the police will prevent the criminal from hurting or killing someone else. It says in the Talmud that those who are a Chassid shota (foolish in their religious practice) are responsible for destroying the world.
If my information is correct, according to R’ Dovid Cohen, it is mutar to call the police b/c he may do it to someone else.
Nevertheless, this info should still be confirmed with him (or any other posek) for accuracy.
If your child swallows something, but you are not sure he is dying, should you go two blocks to your Rav for a consultation? What if you spoke to your Rav and he told you that you could phone if you truly believed she was in danger of serious physical injury. How is this different? Can you leave your house on Shabbos without consulting your Rav? You may claim I am an apikores, but you are something worse.
I’ve discussed this and even more benign scenarios with major poskim and with a rosh yeshiva.
As a physician, I can state that without a doubt the sort of blow that knocks someone to the ground is itself pikuach nefesh, due to the brain injury and what might ensue, and the person should be evaluated promptly if not immediately by a physician to determine if the person is out of danger.
The perpetrator is definitely a rodef and one is obligated to stop the rodef. Calling police (a d’rebanon) or walking to the precinct is a no-brainer (pardon the pun).
Anyone who fails to do so is at best a chasid shoteh.
VIN Should Remove Your Comment. Let me see YOU Getting Punched in the Head on Shabbos Afternoon 2:30pm walking to your friend, and then Motszai Shabbat write that comment. Stop with the non-sense!
Thank you Mr. DeBlassio for setting the tone in NYC. The hooligans know no more stop & frisk and the police will “cooperate” with you. So do the crimes you’d like. And by the way its a fact that Bloomberg has ordered the police to discontinue stop &frisk; already under his watch. So we can all thank you Mr. DeBlassio and his progressive” agenda for nyc.
It time to start carrying the gun on Shabbat.
Time to organize a JDL Jewish Defense League quicly as this is the only way the haters know when to stop
if you let them get away and they know the Jews are not strong they will continue. the JDL was proven as deterrent during the 1970 s when the Italians attacked jews in that area,
Urgent meeting should be called NOW before a Bernard Getz emerges,,
to the first reply– mind your own business
Two words for the posters who are disputing the obvious cheter – CHIUV to be mechalel Shabbos CV”S – chasid shoteh!
First of all using the phone on shabbos is only d’Rabanan – secondly, Hatzoloh responds to hundreds of non-Emergency cases on Shabbos every year without consulting a rov – don’t be stupid when others safety is concerned!!!
