Newsday (http://bit.ly/1j0E6sp ) reports that Commissioner Thomas Dale was ousted on Thursday. There’ve been reports he directed officers to pull over a county bus and arrest a witness involved in an election year dispute.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano issued a statement saying District Attorney Kathleen Rice had begun an investigation of Dale.
A deputy county executive will serving as acting police commissioner.
A police department spokesman did not immediately comment on the personnel change.
Mangano also announced other personnel changes, including the appointment of a new chief of detectives.
The department, east of New York City, has faced a series of public relations headaches in recent months.
In July, a former deputy police commissioner was convicted of official misconduct.
