Brooklyn, NY +Simcha Felder: I Voted For Congestion, With Conditions For Volunteers+

    36

Brooklyn, NY – Hundreds in the volunteer’s community have expressed their discontent to Council member Simcha Felder [D- Brooklyn] for voting YES on Congestion Pricing. Organizations such as Hatzolah, Chassed, Chavirim, and countless others have raised their concern how this will terribly affect them, as they do 1000’s of trips a year from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

VIN News reached out to Council member Felder to express this concern, and for him to clarifiy his stand.

Councilman member Felder told us the following:

“The congestion pricing program is not going into effect tomorrow, and details are still being worked out”. “I am committed to making sure the volunteer organizations that do such important work in the community are not being forgotten” Said Felder.

He continued to tell us “I have an agreement with Mayor Bloomberg and his administration, that one of my conditions of voting in favor of the congestion pricing program, is to ensure that adequate accommodations will be made for volunteer organizations”.

The Manhattan consumer will end up paying for this ($21 for trucks toll) Trucking companies will raise their fees so will companies who do their own delivering, they will either raise price per item/ carton (to include extra expense) or charge for delivery, and the retailer will forward the expense to the consumer. The same goes for wholesalers.

Those who rely on goods being trucked in will get hit, for example Building supply Etc. Also people and companies who need specialty services (some sort of technician Etc.) will pay more, as those who provide those services will add a charge. This might just add up to inflation.

Since Simcha got into office he did some great stuff that at first looked like that we will suffer like who knows what.

I hope what I am writting now is true:(because this is what I would think to myself if I was in Simcha Felder’s shoes).

Simcha thought to himself that if he votes against it, it won’t matter because it is going to pass anyway. So I think Simcha Felder said to himself if I vote against, the MAYOR & the Speaker will be angry at me and kill all the money I bring into the community every year, and my vote is not going to break it or make it anyway. Let me be on the good side and get my community served as in the passed.

Another thing Simcha said to himself let me be on the good side of the MAYOR & Speaker because this won’t pass in Albany anyway. Speaker Silver is against the whole congestion pricing.

So I think Simcha said to himself Congestion pricing isn’t happening, my community should not get hurt, My vote is not going to hurt eitherway, so vote YES for congestion pricing and everyone is a winner.

Screaming doesn’t help at all, a couple people don’t know all the facts and are spreading false rumers.

How many of you use the BATTERY TUNNEL TO GET INTO THE CITY and have EZPASS???

    “How much will it cost?
    All passenger vehicles $8
Bridge and tunnel tolls will go towards the $8 congestion pricing fee, if the driver uses E-Z pass. If a driver’s trip includes tolls that exceed $8 presently (for example the Battery Tunnel), then congestion pricing does not add any additional cost to their trip.”

    I ALWAYS USE THE TUNNEL!!!

If you either use the tunnel or stay on the highway and go around Manhattan instead thru Manhattan you will not have to pay. The people who will pay the most are NJ and Ct residents. This is really the replacement for the commuter tax. This is not an issue for Brooklyn people.

Simcha i applaud you for the stuff you do. But this is just outrageous……….. do you travel thru manhattan everyday or do you work in the heart of boro park. oh i see it doesnt affect you at all so why the heck do u care do vote against but all of us hardworkers that need to travel thru manhattan have to pay an extra $8 everyday besides the outrageous toll prices are you going to pay for all of us that use it i doubt it. WELL LET ME TELL YOU ONE THING WE WILL NOT FORGET WHEN YOU RUN WE WILL ALL VOTE AGAINST YOU U WATCH THEN U WILL COME RUNNING TO ALL US YIDDEN TRYING TO GET OUR VOTES IT WILL BE A LITTLE TOO LATE. i am furious as it is everything is so expensive just let us live we pay more than enough taxes i dont need an extra $50 a week for this…..

Simcha is right. The cross harbor rail is a much larger problem than a new toll. For those who forget there is a rail line that runs through Boro Park and Flatbush/Midwood.To understand the damage proposed google cross harbor rail ny. It passes yeshivos and Bais Yakovs plus many private frum houses .Thanks simcha for keeping your eye on the ball.

I’m saying this loud and clear:YOU LET US DOWN!!
This congestion charge is a load of bull:Facts are that the traffic in New York is a lot better than other cities such as Atlanta and L.A.Fact is that this will only make a small dent in the overall traffic:Who do you think is going to pay for the 21$ every truck entering Manhattan has to pay.The people who live here that’s who.
Bravo Bloomberg with another one of your hair brained ideas. How about another West Side stadium??

Thank you Simcha for your vote to increase taxes in NYC! We will all certainly remember this when you run again – for whatever it is you plan on running for!

This is a tax – dont kid yourselves – levied against the people in order to continue the hypocrisy known as global warming.

This is a money make like no other for the city! $9 for non ezpass to get thru that area. What a crock!

Simcha, you are toast in this city!

Here is hoping the State Assembly has the testosterone to stand up to the trash.

Felder never said that its in the bill he said he has a verbal agreement of sort.

    Anonymous 321pm….
I think Felder needs every vote to win. Don’t forget it’s a citywide election and it’s harder to win.

    Williamsburg….
Bloomberg doesn’t laugh from Felder at all. He needs Felder till the end of the term for other stuff. In the past I think Felder got from Bloomberg a lot for his district.

    Anonymous 242pm….
That’s politics you give me this and I will give you that.

    Anonymous 318pm….
There are no waivers for elected official. An elected official pays tolls just like everyone, so if you want you could start paying the $8.

    Michael Savage….
You have great points. You should call 311 or email the Mayor. Your points will help the whole City.

FOR THE RECORD, I also don’t like this new tax, but to attack a Councilman with out having the facts is not fair at all.

    Here is another big brainstorm:

How about shutting up all those sick eviro”mental”ists and adding at least 3 lanes to the FDR Drive and West Side Highways all the way from downtown up to Westchester I bet that would solve a lot of problems …………..hey how about another bridge or tunnel cutting thru from NJ directly in to downtown Brooklyn or something……Am I the only genius here?!

when you get off the Verrazano bridge there is a bus lane thats always empty, while everyone sits on traffic and dont forget how much traffic we all had when they made that extra lane claiming it will ease traffic but you cant even step foot there unless you want to risk a fine

simcha felder very nice of u to vote for it being youll get a special waiver pass since your a concil member but what about the rest of us??
simcha when you start paying ill start paying as well
anyone who has to access any hospital care in that area will be forced to pay 8.00 for what reason??and u and i know it will continue to go up it wont stay at $8.00 for very long just as the bridges and tunnels continue to go up every year or 2 this is an unfair tax we all live here and have a right to drive in/thru the city to get to where we have to!!
and simcha if you really care about your constitiuants you would ask them before u vote after all your our elected representative!!so our opinions should at least be taken into consideration your opinion is only one vote your constituants opinion that u represent is thousands of people beside you who may very well be against this congestion pricing you see $$$ now but your not looking at the big picture!!

Congestion fees are in essence just another tax. How Bloomberg could call himself a fiscal republican and then call for this tax is beyond me.
Here are some alternative methods for easing congestion and increasing revenue:

    1) Strong crackdown on trucks, school buses and especially Access a Rides, when they are driving where a sign clearly states “PASSENGER CARS ONLY” for example the Grand Central Parkway, Belt Parkway, Ocean Parkway etc.

    2) ALL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION HAS TO BEGIN AFTER 9 PM NO EXCEPTIONS.
After 6 am ALL construction vehicles must be cleared and all lanes opened.

    3) Eliminating a large number of Access a Rides by making it harder to qualify for a ride. I’m guessing that a very large percentage of Access a Ride riders are illegals and/or unqualified. and everyone knows how Access a Rides drive r-e-a-l-l-y slow in the left lane.

    4) Raising the speed limit by 10 on all highways. There are numerous studies all over the internet that show that higher speed limits do not necessarily cause more accidents.

5)Strong ticketing blitz on trucks and buses in the left lane.

I think this will really help.
Isn’t everyone sick and tired of rushhour allhour construction on the Gowanus/BQE?
Isn’t it crazy that no matter when you take the Van Wyck North there is permanent construction going on?

Isn’t everyone sick and tired of those just wide enough Access a Rides that are driven at really slow speeds and driven by even lower IQs (always in the left lane and ALWAYS in front of you in the Battery Tunnel)?

We need real change on the pothole ridden never ending construction highways of NYC, and raising tolls/taxes WILL NOT HELP A BIT.
Only my suggestions MIGHT put a dent in the traffic

Please think a minute of how it is when you seat in traffic because some ppl have to go shopping and that’s why you have to spend 30 minutes of your important time in traffic, so to pay $8.00 to gain time is acutely noting……. And for the voluntary organizations please don’t always push in everywhere, this plan is crucial for us and our children at the least as much the organization…
