State Police will begin “Warrant Wednesday” on their Facebook page to ask for assistance from the public in finding people who have warrants.

The new initiative will launch today, Feb. 5. Every Wednesday, the NYSP Facebook page will feature wanted posters of citizens who have arrest or bench warrants statewide. Previous wanted postings on their Facebook page have been successful, leading to arrests of several individuals.

“New York State is using new and creative tools to help make our streets and neighborhoods safer,” said Governor Cuomo. “Social media’s broad appeal can help the State Police track down those wanted in connection with crimes and bring them to justice.”

A “photo album” will appear on the NYSP Facebook page each Wednesday that will include wanted posters showing a photo, basic information about the wanted person, what they are wanted for and a contact number for the police station.

Police are urging the public to look at and share the postings each week to help the police locate wanted individuals.

You do not need a Facebook account to view “Warrant Wednesday” postings. Postings can be viewed by visiting the New York State Police Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nyspolice. If you do have have an account, State Police invite you to “Like” the page to spread the word.

You can also see postings on the New York State Police Twitter page at www.twitter.com/@nyspolice.
