Louis Cappelli’s Concord Associates and Empire Resorts are going to build a new gaming resort with a hotel, conference center, racino and Monticello Raceway.

The racetrack and video slot machine operation will be relocated from their current location in Monticello to the site of the former Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake.

Under terms of the legislation, the developers will be able to retain 75 percent of the profits from the VLTs, up from the current 50 percent.

The project is expected to bring with it 2,000 permanent jobs and an increase in the current contribution to state education from the new VLT operation.

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, who sponsored the bill in the Assembly, said the project will stimulate the economy of the greater Hudson Valley-Catskills region. “The project will have impact on Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties,” she said. “We are going to put a lot of people to work on the project.”

Senator John Bonacic, who sponsored the legislation in the Senate, said with 14 percent of Sullivan County’s population at or below the poverty level, this project will serve as a major economic boost for the region. “The people of the county need permanent jobs, a substantial increase in education funding, and dollars invested into the regional economy.”

Construction is expected to begin in the weeks ahead with the first phase to be completed in two years.

Demolition has been underway for weeks to remove the old Concord building

FIrstly, Please expand the Rt. 42 quickly!

Then remember not to leave a thing in your bungalows over the winter because you probably wont find it anymore. Dont get surprised if a couple of squatters move in to your vacated apartments.

Traffic   exit 105B, will be thru the sky. Buckle up! Its coming!

Will the gambling casino will do anything to fund the Catskill yeshivos and improve our frum lifestyle?

The only thing that will increase will be the revenues from something that will impoverish many yidden.

There is an airport and a heliport nearby.

Hopefully the casino hotel will sponsor travel for its visitors. by the way who ever owns property in the area is going to become very very rich as the realty market near monticello will soar in the coming years!!!

Two huge advantages to this. First, finally some upscale hotels to choose from in the area. Second, all the bums that hang out in the streets will now be confined to the walls of the casinos and will not pollute the areas and will not influence yiddishe neshamos. I am all for this plan. At least a sense of heimish keit will once again prevail in the Catskill region.

Have no fear! This plan will end in failure just like the countless other such plans. These people need to realize that there are not enough people of means living in close enough proximity to patronize this establishment. Bigger knackers have tried it many times only to collapse in failure. People from NYC would rather travel to AC or Foxwoods.

LOL. Name 1 casino on the East Coast that failed. This place, assuming they get their casino license, will be a gold mine. It is about half the time to foxwoods or AC. Plus, they will get all the yidden during the summer. I own the stock (NYNY) big time.
