The management of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp Museum alleges their intention in installing mist showers at the entrance was to help visitors beat the heat, but for Israeli travelers visiting the sacred ground, the sight of the showers was “a punch in the gut.”

“As soon as I got off the bus, I walked into the shower contraption,” tourist Meyer Bolka told Ynet News (http://bit.ly/1fQuro5). “I was in shock. It was a punch in the gut. I walked up to the reception and asked the worker there about the showers. She said it was a hot day. I told her: ‘With all due respect, it reminds of the gas chambers.’ She told me she is very sorry.”

Bolka said that Israeli teens visiting Auschwitz did make use of the showers, but the placement of the showers raised the ire of older tourists. “I think that in a place like this, they should have thought about the type of connotation this would raise,” Bolka said. “If you want to cool people down, you need to find another solution. It was not a pleasant sight to see those sprinklers.”

The Museum has extended its apologies, saying it did not mean to offend anyone, and has committed to finding a better location for the mist showers going forward.

Mist showers are very common today. They save water. People are overreacting.

Ok, time for me to “cash in” on my dad being a holocaust survivor; people always seem to treat me and my opinions with more respect when I mention that before I state my own opinion. Ahem, so, here goes: Loosen up. Even if it was intended to evoke the gas chamber showers, that too would be a worthwhile educational moment – to reflect on how the victims were lulled to their deaths, and what terror it must have been like to realize only when under the shower head what was happening. My sister is named after my aunt who died that way, and I did that thought experiment as a child when our babysitter (a cousin) let it slip out [not fun – I was too young]. Part of surviving is just letting a shower be a shower, opening the faucet already, and washing up. Here, what’s the heichi timtzi for maleficent intent? So, go easy on the Poles, and on their tourist attractions.

Cant play victim on such bs. A rotten apple reminds my gramdma of what she wished she found when she was in the war. Anyhing can remember Anyhing. Nobody meant a thing. If people abuse on the “nebach” for petty, they will not be taken seriously on the real stuff. On the same line, if we call the cofee company because theres a picture of a woman. (Very tsniusdig) just because she is a woman….Busha Vecherpa on that cofee story. Cover your cofee in your house only if you want. The woman was very tsniusdig
