Organizers say 300 to 500 people are expected at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun. State Sen. Eric Schneiderman, a Bronx Democrat and sponsor, says the incoming Obama administration, Democratic Congress and new Democratic majority in the state Senate have created excitement, which advocates want to carry forward as political support for energy policy, climate change and green jobs.

Other sponsors are U.S. Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Charles Rangel, several Democrats in the state Senate and Assembly, city officials, and environmental and civic groups.

This is great! there was atime when environmental consciousness was not a political issue. we must remake it the human issues that it is without the stupid poltics!
Besides, shuls and institutions should be aware of how much MONEY THEY CAN SAVE if they learn ways to go gre4en and cut down on their utility bills in this insane economy!

I understand “green” as does the founder of The Weather Channel, John Coleman, who said global warming is “the greatest scam in history.”
I have been involved in the Environment for most of my adult life, being an avid outdoorsman and one of the few proud political conservatives with a Sierra Club membership. But read my lips: Hating environmentalists does not mean hating nature.
I received literature from just about every environmentalist group saying how Bush is bad and how Obama will champion the cause for environmentalists. Oh yes? Well, there’s news out today: A decision by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to open thousands of acres of public lands abutting national park properties in Utah could be halted by President-elect Barack Obama once he takes office, according to his transition team. “They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah,” John Podesta, who heads the transition team, said Sunday on a Fox network news show.”
Last year President Bush announced that he plans to designate an island chain spanning nearly 1,400 miles of the Pacific northwest of Hawaii as a national monument, creating the largest protected marine reserve in the world, according to sources familiar with the plan. Laura Bush, the first lady, is the honorary chairwoman of the Nation Park Foundation. I can go on and on by chronicling how the Bush administration was actually instrumental in preserving open space and supporting the environment but the topic at hand is Global Warming.
More than 31,000 scientists across the U.S. – including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s in fields such as atmospheric science, climatology, Earth science, environment and dozens of other specialties – have signed a petition rejecting “global warming,” the assumption that the human production of greenhouse gases is damaging Earth’s climate.
“There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate,” the petition states. “Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”
So, before YOU drop a line here assuming that we Chasidic Jews don’t know a thing or two about “Green” guess again and start citing your sources other than Al “I invented the internet” Gore.

Politics doesnt belong in a Shul!!! We do NOT use the Torah as a spade… Why should we allow filthy politicians to do this? They are going to use our Torah as a platform to push their agendas… This is a shunda and a disgrace… And NO it doesnt matter if they are democrat or republican, liberal or conservative… We just dont do it!!! WRONG PLACE!!! The only consolation is that the event isnt taking place at an Orthodox Shul. Most likely half of the members are not even Jews and so one could argue it is a unkosher event taking place at an unkosher place. But be warned that this could spread to other Shuls and seep into the frum community…

Oh wonderful, more idiots falling for something that is a HOAX and doesn’t exist. This synagogue must be some real left wing wakko place.

Maybe some of these wakkos could explain why according to to my electric company, the temp for October in NJ was 10 degrees cooler?? Can it be that we are back in the ‘cool’ cycle? It was only 25 years ago we kept hearing about The Great Freeze that was going to be upon us.

    To Chachum and Historian:
This is where you are wrong. I never said I have anything against founding the EPA or environmentalism in general. My issue is with the perversion of the environmental movement, including the hoax of Global Warming. Let’s get this straight, I strongly endorse keeping our land and air clean. If you drop trash in my presence you WILL pick it up. When I take yeshivahs and groups into the woods and introduce them to nature I always start off by saying, ”take nothing but pictures; leave nothing but footprints.” I love nature and have thus far explored about 40 units of the National Park Service.
I did receive my training from (and am a volunteer for) the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
In addition to believing in that cause I actually earn a living being an EPA compliance consultant. Don’t preach to me about getting an education.

What a joke! Politicians will save the world from becoming hot, haha.

This winter start is the coldest we had in 80 years, if you ask Gore why, he would say because of big oil and pollution the earth is now getting cooler. Hey Mr Gore you can’t have it both ways!

Let G-D manage the weather and stay out of it, you politicians, you can’t even forecast a 5 day weather accurately and you know what will be in 20 years from now!?

    What a joke

The politicians need to shut up. All their hot air contributes to the warming.

Our tradition teaches that Adam and Eve were asked to “till and to tend” the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 2:15). We are told that God literally took Adam and Eve by the hand, declaring, “Look at my works! See how beautiful they are—how excellent! For your sake I created them all. See to it that you do not spoil and destroy My world; for if you do, there will be no one else to repair it after you.” (Midrash Kohelet Rabbah, 1 on Ecclesiastes 7:13) Despite this admonition, man-made carbon emissions threaten to irreparably alter the Earth. As partners in God’s creation, it is our obligation to address this impact by practicing “Tikkun Olam,” literally, repairing the world.

My head is spinning from all the name calling. Here’s a thought:
When I grew up I knew that pollution is a problem. Today, Global Warming took over the problem. Those who wish to debunk Global Warming are not debunking the hazards of pollution. This is a misconception that many of you have. A person can say that he does not believe that man contributes to Global Warming yet that doesn’t mean that he enjoys sticking his face to the exhaust of an automobile. Every child knows that the air is cleaner in the “country.” That does not mean that all who believe in clean air need to believe that mankind is responsible for Global Warming.
Our world has reportedly gone through Global Warming and Global Cooling and Ice Ages and other climate change phases in the many thousands (or gazillions, according to them) years that the world stands. Those who debunk Global Warming are not denying that the Arctic ice caps are melting, all they’re saying is that mankind’s contribution (through Co2) is so minute that it can hardly make a difference. And although they have Al Gore against them, they have 31,000 scientists who agree with them.
