Queens, NY – Police say a teenager has died after being pulled from rough water off Rockaway Beach.

Emergency crews received a call shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting a swimmer in distress near Beach 67 Street in Far Rockaway.
Fire department divers found the 19-year-old victim face down in the water. He was about 50 yards from the shore, near the end of a rock jetty.
The teen was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Officials say there were no lifeguards on duty at the time. City beaches do not open until May 28.
