London – Heavy snow caused chaos across Britain last night as some airports were forced to close. Gatwick Airport and London City Airport were both shut for part of the evening while their runways were de-iced. Heavy snow forced Stansted Airport to close its runway at 10:30pm.

A total of 23 flights were cancelled and 18 diverted from Gatwick as a result of the weather. Flights to London City Airport were diverted to Heathrow and Luton.
A number of train services linking London and the south coast were also delayed or cancelled as snow drifted on to the tracks.
A junction of the London-bound M20 in Kent was temporarily shut because of the treacherous conditions.
An army of snow ploughs and gritters were on standby as much of the UK prepared to be engulfed by “significant and disruptive” snowfall.
Forecasters predicted falls of up to 20cm in some areas as icy winds and heavy snow roll in from Russia. The south-east of England and the Pennines were due to bear the brunt of the weather, but much of the UK will see heavy snow over the next 48 hours.
The snow is expected in most parts of Scotland today with temperatures down to -1C tonight.
Parts of south-east England, including London and eastern England, will see anywhere from 10-15cm, perhaps above 20cm over the higher ground. It will be accompanied by strong winds.
Severe disruption to roads and airports is extremely probable during the peak of the Monday afternoon rush-hour.
The Highways Agency spent much of the weekend gritting roads in preparation for the icy blast and have 500 salt spreaders, snow ploughs and snow blowers on standby.
“All London buses have been withdrawn from service due to adverse weather and dangerous road conditions,” Transport for London said on its website.
How could this happen? Al Gore said global warming is a fact that we cannpt deny. It should never snow again. Those one million people in Kentucky who are still without power from last week’s ice stomr are lying.
Oh! A big meeting was scheduled for today in the UK about the very importand issue of GLOBAL WARMING, but it was canceled due to the WEATHER!

Its still snowing lightly (if anyone is interested!!)People look friendly! when it snows. The worst part is when the snow turns into shlush. Weathermen said it will be bad all week. (I must be soo bored to send this post!)
What am I missing, it is supposedly only 4-6 inches. Does that amount paralyze a city and major airports?
The roads are clearing, we are not used to this kind of weather. So therefore not prepared fo it we have not seen snow in london like this for many years its just delicious loving every second of it
Global Warming does not mean it will be hotter all year long, it means more extreme weather – hotter in summer & colder in winter. London / UK never gets weather like this, which just proves the point.
london has had weather like this only 18 years ago..it makes me laugh when they say its global warming/colding…its a con to get more money through taxes out of you, thats it.
i’m lovin evry second of it
I wonder when chicken little will stop the global warming hoax and start the new global cooling one. In these times of plenty we need another scam to throw money at.
all my years in London as a child I have never had such weather
It will be harder for the cowardly London police to run from the arab protestors in the snow.
Yeh it sounds a bit ridiculous that the country has shut down, but we’re not used to this amount of snow. The last time it was this bad was in 1991…so you can imagine, everyone’s in a little bit of shock. They haven’t used the snowplows in 15 years!
Anyway, most people here are enjoying spending time with their families…myself included.
I was in LimeyTown about 10 years ago for Pesach and it snowed during chol hamoed. I guess that was Global Warming too.
A few inches of snow, and london falls apart! gimme a break!
You mean I don’t have to use those extremely expensive flourescent bulbs that burn out far too often & the global temperature won’t rise by .00001 degree over the next 10 years?? That’s good because I was wondering what happens to all that mercury when the bulbs burst. Why dont we call Hazmat to change them??
