New York – Former Pres. Clinton: Bush Could Have Prevented ‘90%’ of Financial Mess

    35

New York – Former President Bill Clinton gives President Barack Obama an “A” grade for his first month in office, but tells ABC News that Obama needs to put on a more positive face when speaking to the American people about the economy and must keep pressure on Republicans who try to obstruct his plans.

“Look, the American people, I think, know the president has tried to reach out to Republicans,” Clinton told ABC News’ Chris Cuomo. “And it takes two to tango. I think there are some of them who really believe that just-say-no politics is good politics.

“It was — briefly, only briefly — in the ’90s. It isn’t anymore,” he added. “So, sooner or later, I think if he just keeps chugging along, just keeps the door open, invite ’em to every economic conference, invite ’em to every meeting, eventually, he’ll start getting some votes” in Congress.

Clinton gives former President George W. Bush a harsh review on the economy, however, blaming the Republican for the current fiscal crisis by not moving sooner to help struggling homeowners avoid foreclosure.

“I personally believe, based on my experience over the years with the economy, that if we moved aggressively on this home problem a year and a half ago, even a year ago, as much as 90 percent of the current crisis could have been avoided,” he said.

In a notable early showdown over a $787 billion economic stimulus proposal, only three Republicans in the Senate and none in the House of Representatives voted for the Obama-endorsed bill.

This is entirely billys fault as is osama bin laden. Why?
Allan Greenspan upheld and enforced the community lending practice which obligates banks to lend to local people and businesses that aren’t really qualified. This happened under the watch of billy. Now we are suffering the consequences.
Billy had his hand on osama in darfur but didn’t capture him and seven months into Bsh we had 9.11.
Is Bush great? No. But he kept us safe didn’t scare the living day lights out of Americans like Obama is and tried not to waste money that we don’t have.
Clinton is a disgrace and we will suffer for many years of Obama even after he leaves office.
Agav, the market and real estate collapse started the last 2 years of Bush when the democrats controlled congress. But let’s not atlk about that.

Could have…Should have… hey Bill, 9/11 could have been prevented had Bin Ladin been captured while you were in Office, and we all know why you hate Rebublicans… Just blame yourself for being the lowest of the low from all Presidents in history when it comes to Moral Values, what a disgrace. I suggest, you rather shut up!

It may have looked like the economy was doing well under President Clinton when actually he was setting up the economic crisis that we are currently in. He is responsible for all these bad mortgages. He made it easy for ineligible people to get a mortgage. So for a while it looked like we were doing well, when actually we were digging ourselves into a big ditch. Unfortunately the bust happened under President Bush so the Democrats can blame all the problems on the Republicans (as usual).

As a Conservative I will say Pres Bush had his faults but for Clinton to place blame on him is asinine. Perhaps Slick Willy (or would it be Sick Willy?) should have been playing with less cigars and paying more attention to the country?

We have NEVER had a President who told us day in and day out how things will get WORSE. Think about it. It has NEVER happened!! This community organizer (aka rable rouser) we have in office now hasnt said ONE POSSITIVE THING YET!

Clinton convieniently forgets it was the Act in the late 60s giving everyone the “right” to own a home. That was made worse under Carter and again under his own watch. All this meant was that everyone could qualify for a mortgage BECAUSE CONGRESS SAID SO.

Now comes the govt which messed up in the first place and they are “fixing” it. Sane people say they cant. As much as it pains me to say it, if people cant afford a house, they should rent. We are ALLOWED to own property (for now) but it isnt a MUST to own property.

Look who’s calling the kettle black. What a nerve this low-life of an individual who disgraced the Presidentcy of the United States to come out and criticize Former President Bush. He was too busy playing around with interns to see what is going on right in front of his own eyes. He and his wife should just do us all a favor and disappear forever.

Hindsight is 20/20 but Clinton is not wrong. The Bushies were aware of what was going on, knew the mess they were presiding over, and waited in denial until it was way past too late to do anything about it. the bailouts were an extreme measure as is the stimulus. it shouldnt have come to that but they were too busy with …

Carter and Clinton are responsible for the situation we are in – Carter for the Fair Housing Act and Clinton for the deregulation of FannieMae and Freddie Mac as well as the creation of the Mortgage Backed Securities market.

He is a disingenuous blatant phony.

    really mr clinton?
is that why every country in the world’s banks are in huge trouble from the UK to khazakhistan, are the banks in Ireland being nationalized because bush was in control of them?
banks all over the world got involved in risky practices, not one world leader did anything to prevent this crisis, but im sure if you were president you would have been the one world leader to prevent this?

Bill actually was the one who forced Freddie and Fannie to increase the percentage of their portfolio being loaned to unqualified buyers by lowering the qulaification standards. Bill also allowed Banks, to Merge with Brokerage houses and other types of Financial institutions which created the Credit mess in the first place. So regardless of what Bush coulda should done he wouldnt have had to do anything if Billy Boy didnt create the mess in the first place.

If nothing else Bill Clinton is an ungrateful ‘you know what’…… President G.W. Bush had been for his entire presidency so gracious to him- constantly giving him prestige, inviting him to the White House many times. And how can we forget when GWB when down to Arkansas for the Clinton Library and spoke so glowingly about this lowlife……… And for Bill to speak so derrogatory about Bush(and its not the first time)….. What nerve!! What oddacity!!

What a dirtbag. George Bush Senior was not re-elected because he made a no new taxes promise and the Dems refused to pass a budget forcing him to raise taxes. Bill Clinton was elected and passed the largest budget in US history without comment. basically ignoring the attacks on American soil WTC attack one, the embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the USS Cole, he set the scene for WTC attack #2 , instead of attacking Al Quaida on their turf and weakening them in their own backyard. The deaths of 3000 Americans on Sept 11, 2001 rests squarely on the shoulders of one William Jefferson Clinton.
