Shtemer’s family was notified of his death, and a date for the funeral is yet to be set.

The accident occurred while Shtemer was riding a bicycle with an Ecuadorian friend of his near the town of Banos, some four-hours away from the capital, Quito. A private vehicle hit him for unknown reasons, and he was apparently killed on the spot.

Israeli Ambassador to Ecuador Eyal Sela was briefed on the incident by local police and arrived at the scene of the accident. The embassy began preparations to have the body flown to Israel for Shtemer’s burial.

Guy’s mother, Nava, told Ynet her son had been traveling in South America for some nine months, and was supposed to return home this weekend.

“He planned to arrive in Israel on Friday and register for studies at university. This morning the police came and told me he was killed in a road accident, after being hit by a passing car.”

Nava said her son was “a brilliant guy – an excellent student who loved poetry and even wrote a prose. This was his post-military service trip. At the start of the month, on February 2, he celebrated his 23rd birthday, and now he has been killed.

“We don’t know much about what happened. It is my understanding that this was not some sort of dangerous or daring track, but just a bike ride, just and accident. Everyone has their own fate.”

Why do so many Israelis flee the Eretz HaKodesh for world wide tiyulim after their army service? Why do so many flee to Turkey who revealed their true love for Am Yisrael? To Cyprus who hate our guts? To India for marijuana and spicy food?

Travel b’Aretz and love the land and our people !!!

Save your life, time and money. Spend it on your education and invest in your future and your family.

To #1 : You are a true Jew to think of a fellow and guard his holy neshama with limud Mishnaos. Kol HaKavod lecha. You have inspired me.

To #2 : Remember that these are our brethren you have had — Hashem Yerachem! — a life of conflict and pressure and strain. These Israelis only want to relax, explore, and enjoy life after living their, adolescence, and young adulthood years in constant conflict.

Then they have to serve in an army that is manipulated by the Eruv Rav politicians. Many of them return to Eretz Yisrael, which they love deeply and eternally.

    Understand them and love them!

I actually wrote my comment 2 first out of anger and sadness. Too many young kids are dieing around the world in these stupid freak accidents. Hiking in mountain tops and trails without guides or equipment. We read about these accidents all the time. It’s crazy. Why are they in South America and India where they drive like crazy people? It just seems so stupid to me to travel to these out of the way countries. Yes I went to Yeshiva in Israel many years ago for a couple of years but I didn’t make aliya. Actually, so many Israelies told me not to waste my time even volunteering for the Army because it was mismanaged and the Army was not what I thought it was. Then as it turned out when I checked into it there were so many Russian immigrants that the army was not looking for any new recruits at all from chutz l’aretz !!! So hey give me a break ! If my wife would allow it, I would join the US Marine Corp and go to Afganistan and wipe out the Taliban. Then again, they wouldn’t want me either –I am too old, too slow, day late dollar short. Nonetheless, I felt bad for Guy and learned mishna and told you to do the same in the post 1. Hey, I apologize and I hope no other accidents happen to post army tayarim. Amen.
