An MDA team evacuated the youth to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.

The youth told the medical crew that the firecracker went off during an attempt to increase its force.

Following the incident, MDA Director-General Eli Bin called upon parents to prevent their children from purchasing dangerous explosives that could cause severe handicaps such as that day’s incident, “or even worse.”

Fireworks should be BANNED except for displays by professionals. There is no reason for kids to have access to this stuff which can also be used for terrorist attacks.

Boys love firecrackers more than yayin or beer ! It is a simple fact. Therefore, parents must enforce one simple rule. Never hold a firecracker in your hand to light it. The rule must be use one of those large barbeque lighters to light a firecracker placed on the ground ONLY. Do that and your child will be as safe as safe can be with a firecracker. Also, tell them no blowing up ant hills, cats, dogs, wild animals or any other living thing !!! Mailboxes are also off limits.

I would rather err on the side of caution.

Can anyone find a reason for firecrackers on Purim? To the best of my knowledge, there is no reference to anything explosive in the Megilla.

Fireworks, and anything involving fire, are dangerous. Case closed. Why should anyone be allowed to buy sell, or use these things?

I watched fireworks used on my block and land on my porch. I called 311. I promise to do it again. To all those who believe that calling authorities when danger is going on is mesira, get a life and open the Shulchan Aruch. When you can prove that there is a problem of mesira, I’ll create my own vigilante group. Till then, watch out for the cops. My neighborhood will be safe. What about yours?

By the way, who created this monstrosity of an idea of “Purim shtick?” It surely has no Torah basis.

I’m starting to see a lot of stories about parental neglect in Israel: 3 boys get involved in drug smuggling right under their parents’ noses, kids getting their hands blown up, mothers not stopping pedophiles from molesting their kids…(there was a story on VIN about this a few weeks ago).. What exactly is going on with the kids? Is there an epidemic of parental neglect in Israel? And if so, to what are the parents turning their attention to? Can someone shed light on what is going on over there?

in toronto this past lag baomer there was also a tragedy a 14 year old deaf child
lost an eye do to fireworks . sadly it takes a tragedy like that to wake people up and stop children from using them and not reading the precations and listening to directions
