Gary Lewi says the auction of Agriprocessors Inc. in Postville will be closed to media. He says there are multiple bidders for the company.
Agriprocessors filed for bankruptcy after an immigration raid in May when nearly 400 people, most from Mexico and Guatemala, were arrested. Nearly 100 federal counts were filed against the company and its managers following the raid.
Production was shut down for a time but some lines have restarted. Before the raid, Agriprocessors employed about 1,000 people, or nearly half of Postville’s population.
it’s better it’s closed. who needs the chayadik media frenzy, feeding on this anyways?
Does anyone know if one of the other kosher processors is looking to pick it up at the auction?
Anything that gets more reliably kosher product to market benefits everyone
No reputable kosher meat processing facility would ever want to touch this drech….the name and reputation would hurt anyone who came near it.
i dont know what u guys are talking about, all i know is that many many families in B.P. willy and flatbush got meet and chicken for free b’saivu punim yufa becuase they couldnt aford food. besides for th 50 + guests that ate at Mr. Rubashkins table every shobbos and yum tov. give credit where credit is dou!!!
Who in their right mind would buy a Kosher meat plant. You are only pulling, maybe 35% Kosher, all the hinds are going for treif, 65% of the fore quarters are going for treif. How about veal which yields 10 – 20% Kosher. It is not an easy business to run!!
Since it is an auction, the winning bid can forclose on debts and start new. The company from EY dropped out of buying it bec. of the outstanding loans. The factory and equipment is worth good money, and hopefully a kosher buyer will pick it up.
Big rachmanus on the entire Postville comunity. What a loss for the kosher consumer.
