Los Angeles, CA – American Apparel whose founder Dov Charney has been a vocal advocate of immigration reform, has been told by the United States government that 1,800 of its employees are working illegally in the U.S. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent notice to the Counselor Top 40 supplier that 1,600 of its employees submitted suspect documentation. The eligibility of another 200 workers could be not verified due to the discrepancies in their records.

“It is the company’s hope that these employees are able to confirm their work authorization so that they may continue to work at American Apparel,” Charney said in a prepared statement.
American Apparel said in a press release that if the workers – representing nearly a third of the Los Angeles-based supplier’s workforce – could not provide proper documentation, “the employees will not be able to continue their employment.” The supplier revealed the notice from the government in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late yesterday. American Apparel said in the filing that even if it were to lose all the employees in question, it “does not currently believe that the loss of these employees would have a materially adverse impact on its financial results.”
yeah, we are in golus. another targeted case of outright antisemitism.
What kind of excuse is that? Why is he not in jail like rubashkin? You see if we started to jail all the employers, we would not have room for criminals!!
the whole story makes me sick, how you can find some twisted way to make everything justified.
on one hand look at the way they portrayed Rubashkin, or when ICE came to steal the kids from their Mormon parents. and look how twisted this story is in favor of the illegal immigrants.
This company produces extremely prost ads….
Time for a “hechsher” on clothing…
This is the nut whou just paid Woody Allen 5 mill for using his image in the costume of a Rabbi without permission. ANother nut case.
If Charney was printing up green cards like good old Sholom Mordechai, there should be a cot in the same cell for him.
rubashkin was jailed and his livelyhood taken from him, families and communities ruined maybe peta and forwards are into the clothing industry, if they made a line of modest clothing our rabbis would support him afterall it’s what their rebitzen wants. if they send back these people, will any of the unemployed in the frum world seek out employment??? doubt it afterall free loading is better.
I love the company name “AMERICAN” Apparel. I guess this the American way of doing business… Hire only immigrants.
If this guy was complicit in these criminals violating our laws, he belongs in prison. You may not like the immigration laws, but they are what they are. If he broke the law, he should pay. If not, put all the illegals on buses and send them back where they came from.
Great, so they actually gave him a chance to get those workersto fill out papers legally or to get out.
I wonder if the government also warned the Rubashkins before arresting them.
Teh problem as I have been saying all along is that it is VERY hard to prove they are illeagal. Normal people – which would obviously exclude #7 above – CANNOT tell the difference between a good green card and a forge.
