AAA New York ranked the parkway fourth in its list of the five worst roads in New York, as featured in the August issue of Car & Travel magazine.
The Cross Bronx Expressway topped the list, which was put together by AAA New York’s Traffic Safety staff.
The magazine noted that the Southern State’s “dangerous curves combined with speeding cause a high crash rate.”
“It’s got blind curves. It’s got severe elevation changes, like hills that [you] can’t see over. The lanes are particularly narrow,” said AAA spokesman Robert Sinclair Jr., as he described some of the parkway’s flaws.
Rounding out the list of New York’s worst roads was the Gowanus Expressway at No. 2, the Belt Parkway-Mill Basin Drawbridge at No. 3 and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at No. 5.
Good morning! Finally thay relize what’s going on…
Wow what a surprise
the bqe is so bumpy you can lose control if you drive to fast even below the posted speed limit.
I still think that the BQE is the worst
As someone that traveles on these Rd every day I’m shocked its the worst roads because at speeds of 5 MPH or below what danger can you cause?
Evry1 in the dot should be fired! That’s how many years it took’em to study this
The part of the BQE that approaches the Manhattan Bridge underpass has been under construction for the past 30 years. I remember seeing construction in that area when I went to yesjiva in Brooklyn from KGH.
So are we going to get some of that stimilus money to fix our roads or was the DOT too incompetent to even ask for it?
Its a bumpy ride. Just like in debratzin shtetel
Fdr for sure the worst
The problem with bqe is that there’s constantly construction for as long as I remember, however, as far as dimensions of road etc. Fdr is far worse! Driving on the fdr is so curvy and bumpy its like an amusement park!
Fdr is my favorite car game ( keep a bottle of motrin pain reliever in your car)
the worse is the gowanas no matter what time of day or night there is always traffic use the underpass or 4th avenue
You don’t even have to go on a highway to get good and bumped!! Just go for a ride on Coney Island Ave. from Avenue J to 18th Avenue — It’s like a patchwork quilt because it’s been paved and patched over so many times.–in the past 3 or 4 years. This year there was an emergency FIX IT where the city literally worked overnight!!A bus B68, fell into a hole, so the city WOKE UP and it was fixed immediately!!! The rest of C. I. Avenue, I guess we have to wait for bigger holes!! It is the same on Ocean Parkway but they pave it bit by bit!!
Hey, how about the Interboro? Other than the BQE and maybe the Cross Bronx, I’d say that should be first…
I vote Staten Island “Express”way
