The governor told a group of real estate agents Friday that Florida has been hurricane free thanks to prayer notes he placed on the Western Wall in Jerusalem.

He said each year he has placed them there or has asked someone to place them. The notes, he said, say this: “Dear God, please protect our Florida from storms and other difficulties. Charlie.”

He said he left the first note in 2007 during a trade mission to Israel. The following year, he gave the note to State Sen. Nan Rich and this year he gave the note to a friend.

He also asked the group of assembled agents to keep one thing in mind: “Knock on wood. I would ask you all to say a prayer.”

It is believed, especially among Jews, that the holy site — the Western Wall in Jerusalem — has a direct link to heaven and, therefore, provides the best place for prayers.

Crist, a Methodist, said he doesn’t take credit for Florida being spared from hurricanes. He credits a higher power.

“Time goes on — May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December — no hurricanes,” Crist said. “Thank God.”

It is nice to see a good word from a non – jew. Maybe jews will take a page from this and pray for essentials & proper things instead of excessive & materialistic things. It is worth noting that he prayed for others and for his constituents rather than himself. jews take note.

    Dear Governor Crist:

You are correct, and the fact that you acknowledge G-d’s existence, power, and care has brought and will continue to bring material and spiritual blessing to you, your state, and its citizens.

Thank you for speaking out publicly as you have done.

    G-d bless you!

Sure…a kvitlach in the kotel kept the storms away from Florida. Reminds me of another Republican named Brown who worked such miracles in New Orleans after Katrian

oh how I miss and wish that I can go to the kossel and pray. I have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to pray for. this can be done not only by the kossel but the feeling one gets when standing by the kossel is truly unbeleivable. I hope we can all go to the kessol and daven together not as chassidim or litvachs or sefrodim but only as jewish brothers.

Very nice, but did you notice that Mr. Crist had to add his own Cristian comment of “knock on Wood (wooden Crosses)

I am so happy they have not had hurricanes. Those storms cause so much terrible destruction. It is a real blessing and I am glad he recognizes it. May he continue being blessed.

Sorry to be a cynic, but many people he needs to reelect him are Jewish.

Ots incredible to see the lack of basic emunah in these comments. Since when is it gods fault when we pray and he does send the hurricane? The gezaira that year was to have one… Had we not prayed who knows what else could have transpired!
