An ad proposed by a Brazilian advertising agency, which shows dozens of planes heading for Lower Manhattan, was rejected by the World Wildlife Fund. New York, NY – The World Wildlife Fund is joining a growing chorus of voices expressing outrage over an ad bearing its symbol that shows dozens of planes bearing down on downtown Manhattan with a tag line that reads, “The Tsunami Killed 100 Times More People Than 9/11.”

The ad was leaked just prior to the anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, with copy that states, “The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.”

The WWF says it never approved the ad, issuing a press release to assure critics that it rejected the ad proposal, which was designed by Brazilian design firm, DDB Brasil.

“WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication,” said a statement issued by the World Wildlife Fund on Tuesday.

“The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured,” the statement said.

Its in bad taste, but does make the truthful point that failure to deal with global warming will bring more disasters and tragedies than all the 9/11’s and terrorist actions combined

Wow, this is bad. In addition to the obvious insensitivity, it makes no sense. As if the tsunami was caused by a lack of sufficient “respect” and “preservation”.

Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes on the ocean floor, no? So what’s that even got to do with “global warming”?

All you global warming liberals should try and think about this.
    Global warming doesn’t exisit!
G-d runs the world and controls the climate.
If G-d forbid there is a tsunami its not because of your use of fossil fuels but because of mans sins and G-d is looking to get peoples attention to change their ways. This is fact as states Rashi.
Now the fact that there is a G-d that runs the world and every little detail of it, may interfere with your life style , but you would do yourself a great big favor if you start to attribute ALL of life to G-ds will and not mans will. If you want to do your part to make the world a better place then learn more Torah and do more mitzvot and acts of kindness. The biggest mitzvah you can do is to work on yor belief in G-d and his dominance and SOLE control of EVERYTHING. Then let G-d take care of his business and you stick to yours.

“I thing that all of you who believes the global warming thing is nothing less than an Apikores”

And I suspect that all of you who presume that anyone who accepts the science behind global warming is an “Apikores” is himself an amhaoretz. Indeed, to believe that hashhem wants us to destroy the world he created for us by failing to control greenhouse gas emission is the ultimate apikorsus.

G-d also controls the economy, and politics, and your kids’ shidduchim.

Still, you go to work (I hope), vote (I hope) and deal with shadchanim and michutanim.

Same thing with the environment, silly. It has nothing to do with conservative / liberal and everything to do with hishtadlus.

I hope my husband doesn’t see this article (he doesn’t go on WWF website LOL) but he does visit VIN occasionally. He worked right there & saw enough on 9-11 inc people jumping from the tower. He didn’t sleep properly or speak about it for 6 months afterwards.

This stupid ad will bring back too many bad memories. 9-11 itself makes him very anxious. Maybe VIN could take off the picture?

I would highly recommend the movie, An Inconvenient Truth: the Global Warming documentary with Al Gore as the presenter. Truly an eye-opener on the subject and at times pretty scary stuff based on factual scientific data not just opinions.
