Washington – President Barack Obama issued an order today banning federal employees from text messaging while behind the wheel of a government vehicle or with a government device. Under the order, employees are prohibited from text messaging while operating a government car or driving their own vehicle while on government business. The order also bans employees from using a government-provided cell phone or other device while driving any vehicle.

“Recent deadly crashes involving drivers distracted by text messaging while behind the wheel highlight a growing danger on our roads,” Obama’s order said.
Seven US states in addition to Washington DC require drivers to use ear phones while talking on cell phones. Text messaging has been banned in 18 US states and the District of Columbia.
Obama said he was hopeful his order would encourage other states and local government to crackdown on the dangers of drivers distracted through use of cell phones and text messaging.
In September 2008, a conductor of a Los Angeles commuter train admitted he was text messaging during an accident that killed 25 people. The driver of a Boston trolley in August said he was text messaging when his train struck another, injuring dozens of passengers.
Good. Distracted driving is a menace to public safety
thanks obama I would not have known that its dangerous had you not banned it once again the pres shows he is the one who takes care
how about an order to drink and eat so we can live.
obama is a joke, this what he is wasting his time on
Tell Obama that Irans nuclear wepns can costs 1000’s of lifes and he should batter take care of that and then on this. Letz what he’s!!!
You will have to forgive me, but could you please explain this: “Obama an empty suit naive liar who inexperience chicago politician. ” I don’t speak gibberish, but would like to see the actual facts you have to back up using words like “liar”. Or is this perhaps just the slander you repeat from Glenn Beck?
By the way, there is nothing wrong with this. This policy applies to Federal employees. It is no different than your company setting a policy that you can’t surf obscene material, or check your personal email at work.
Wow read this story… something that Obama has done that I can agree with!
like a kid in class just getting distracted all the time. HEY MR PREZ would you start doing your job instead of running around handing out traffic tickets! I bet his dream is still to become a POWLEES OFFICEH. after all then he could arrest whites, release blacks, etc. arrest somebody fast (as fast as he expects to get done all he wants, porkulos bill, healthcare overhaul, israeli piece YES PIECE BY PIECE.) get home and enjoy the loot.
The president isn’t wasting as much time on some small matter like this as you seem to think. Obama is an important man who has too many responsibilities to do everything himself. This is how I’m guessing this order came to be:
One of Obama’s underlings thought it was necessary to ban government employees from texting while driving and he presented his ban to the president who agreed that it should be put into effect (5 minutes of Obama’s time). One of his underlings wrote a formal representation of the ban and submitted it to Obama who read it, signed it, and released a statement when it was put into effect (5 more minutes of Obama’s time).
Which is about 10 minutes of Obama’s time. How much time did old Georgie spend at the ranch on vacation?
