Commissioner M. Patricia Smith said Thursday that 16 investigators made unannounced visits in April to 27 restaurants and coffee shops in the borough’s Park Slope neighborhood.

Twenty-five were found to be in violation of the state’s $7.25-an-hour minimum wage, overtime and other labor laws. Labor officials say most of the 207 underpaid employees delivered food. Officials say they worked 60 to 70 hours a week for $210 to $275 a week.

Workers at one restaurant were paid as little as $2.75 an hour.

Twelve cases have been resolved; the others are being negotiated.

Labor officials didn’t name the restaurants.

This has got to be a lie. I know the business and deliverymen make decent money. That’s why they drive cars and buy gas to do the job. Nobody works 80 hours for under $300 in NYC, especially illegal restaurant workers. What a bunch of bolonga. I just cannot stand this hypocracy. Lies Lies Lies. Clearly NYC is bankrupt and they need fines to keep the City from insolvency. What a shame the City needs to resort to these tactics. Restaurants will start closing, store fronts will go empty and then everyone will be on bread lines like my Zeideh told me stories about the Great Depression. Is this what we have in store for us? Yidden start saving every cent. Bad times may be coming very soon. HaShem Yirachem aleinu. Amen.

And why weren’t any of the owners arrested and threatened with 800 years in jail?

That’s what I’ve been saying all along!
Restaurants need to get a Ktav Yashrus as well as Kashrus.
