Bloomberg said at a press conference that overnight the Sanitation Department had 2,400 people and 2,000 pieces of equipment clearing the snow. Bloomberg says main roads and highways are already fairly clear, and all streets should be cleared by the evening.

Bloomberg says schools will be open Monday, and this weekend city children will get a hand from the Parks Department, which will provide hot chocolate and sleds at some locations.

The mayor says city retailers weren’t hard hit by the storm Saturday, because the snow held off until late in the day.

About 800 flights have been canceled at the area’s three major airports.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman says the runways are clear and conditions are safe for takeoff, but the airlines have chosen to cancel most flights leaving New York.

Coleman says he expects airlines may return to normal service as early as Sunday afternoon.

Coleman also says the storm didn’t interfere with most flights Saturday, because it didn’t hit the New York City area until the late afternoon.

Alternate side of the street parking rules are suspended today 12/20 and tomorrow 12/21 due to the snow storm.

We are still buried and it is very hard to get to the main roads. Bloomberg can talk he is in the city == let him go to Brooklyn or Queens, where there are small streets, people cannot get out so fast.

I don’t know what bloomberg is talking about. Here in flatbush the roads are NOT even close to clear (other than a few of the main roads). I have yet to see a plow or salter all day.
Normally I would have seen them at least half a dozen times already just on my block alone.
Either he doesn’t have the same force out that he has in the past or they are focusing only on the business districts right now first cause they surely haven’t past the residential areas.

Well, of course in locations where there is more snowfall, the municipality appropriately budgets more money to snow removal, and it happens more quickly and efficiently. It some cities further south where a freak snowstorm happens once in a great while, there are virtually NO provisions for its removal. All this is absolutely as it should be.
