New York – Sen. Schumer’s Polls Taking a Hit

New York – A little-noticed number in last week’s Marist College poll on the Gillibrand-Ford situation suggests that Sen. Charles Schumer’s national profile could be affecting his approval rating at home.

The poll had Schumer’s negative rating at 42 percent, where it has been for months in Marist — but his approval rating was at 51 percent, one of his lowest in that survey in recent years, and down from 58 percent in September.

“We’re seeing some general erosion in his numbers,” said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff, “from what’s been a consistent mid- to high-50s. This is an electorate that’s increasingly unhappy.”

Insiders say Schumer is watching the national trend for any implications for himself — and in a clear signal of anxiety, he was one of the first out of the box with a statement after the Massachusetts election acknowledging the anger among voters at the ruling party.

After years acting as a nonpartisan figure, Schumer tone has become increasingly partisan, and as he’s become more a of a senior figure in Washington — which could leave him without a firewall against national voter anger against the ruling Democratic party.

It’s just one poll, and two other surveys have his numbers higher:

Quinnipiac University and Sienna College have his approval over 60 percent — but for a veteran poll-parser and political obssesser like Schumer, the numbers could be a flag.

New York’s senior senator is the No. 3 Democrat in the senate, and some believe he’s eyeing a higher position.

Longtime Schumer watchers were surprised his pro-Martha Coakley email to supporters calling his now-colleague Scott Brown a “teabagger” last week, using the dismissive term used for the conservative Tea Party activists by hard-core Dems. And he’d long shied away from fights like the one he’s now locked in to bolster Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand by pushing back hard on potential primary rivals.

A Schumer spokesman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

He’s finished. He sold NY down the tubes with Obamacare. Nebraska held out and they got a few hundred Billion $. He sold out and Patterson claims the Senate version will cost NY 1 Billion more per year than the House version. Chuck- your days are over. We need a strong, smart Republican Senator who will get NY their share of the taxes we pay DC>

Not a fan of Schumer but he now has seniority and it would be like cutting off our nose to spite our face if we tossed him out. Hopefully the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts will give him pause to think. As for Gilly, she is useless and ought to be tossed. I would LOVE to see Harold Ford kick her back upstate where she can continue to be useless but not on the public dime.

    Dear Chuckie Cheese Schumer:
Start polishing off your resume because the voters are going to do some housecleaning this November and you’re the “suit of old clothes” that’s going to get tossed out of the closet. Don’t forget to write from Century Village in Deerfield Beach from time to time.
    Signed,
    Angry Voters in Your District

Wake up New Yorkers, Chuck doesn’t represent your needs or concerns. He’s tight with the anti Israelis that now occupy the White House. It’s time to clean house.

Schumer probably won’t be going anywhere but this may have him rethink some of his increasingly unpopular positions. The Republicans should seriously consider a solid run against Gillibrand. Rudy we could really use you as a candidate NOW!!!!!

I know this has nothing to do with anything – but can I say a good word Congressman Schumer?

He is a great friend of Israel – along history of being Israel’s friend.

Schumer rubs people the wrong way. He comes across as a chuptzpanik and thinks he is “entitled” to be Senator. We have a woman silent Senator who is afraid to open her mouth because of him. Enough of these career politicians who think so very highly of themselves.

This man has got to go. He the THE senator that brokered the deal between Harry Reid and Ben Nelson. Why is this man cutting the biggest Financial benefit for Nebraska??? Where was his interests for the cost to New Yorkers? Think. This is NOT the leadership NY can take any longer. I called his 9 offices and Sen. Gillibrands 7 offices for dates on town hall meetings, while Sen. Specter in PA was doing them nightly. Response was too busy, no dates scheduled. What were they too busy doing? this was the talk and concern of the Nation, and they work for us. We PAY THEM. Well not much longer. They better start saving their checks while they last….to Nov.
