Israel – Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar signed a ruling on Monday to prevent individual religious court judges from ruling on the annulment of conversions. Under the ruling, a case would have to be heard by a a panel appointed by the chief rabbi.

Member of Knesset David Rotem welcomed the decision, saying, “The negotiations I held as a representative of the Yisrael Beiteinu party with Rabbi Amar are bearing fruit.”
MK Rotem expressed hope that the matter will continue until a law on the matter is completed.

To #2 , what Tropper did was to annul conversions. In one case, the woman was caught wearing pants, and not having her hair covered. He took back the conversion, rendering her children non-Jewish, as well. A whole family’s life ruined. We don’t have a tradition of invalidating conversions. This is a good move by Rabbi Amar.
