Jerusalem – Twenty one-year-old Elad, who served in an Israel Defense Forces combat unit and resides in a kibbutz in southern Israel, has been dreaming about joining the Mossad for years.

On Thursday, following ongoing reports about the spy agency’s link to the assassination of senior Hamas figure Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, he decided to finally pursue his dream. “I ran to the computer and applied for a job on the organization’s website,” Elad said with excitement.

“I’ve always had a dream to work for the Mossad,” he said, “It’s obvious why – it’s exciting, dangerous and special. Nobody really knows what people do there, and now I suddenly understand how it works – it’s cool. I hope they accept me; I think I have all the required skills.” As it turns out, there are many more just like him.

The Mossad website has become extremely popular in recent weeks, particularly its job openings page, through which one can apply for a position with the agency. Global media reports on Mossad’s alleged involvement in the assassination of the Hamas commander has led to a soaring number of civilian applicants who wish to join the secret service.

The agency, which did not post any new job openings for over six months, posted a statement on February 12 – almost a month after the Dubai operation – that read: “You have an opportunity to create a reality in which you play the lead role. If you possess, intelligence and sophistication, you can make a difference and fulfill a national and personal mission. If you can engage, charm and influence people – you may have the qualities we are looking for.”

    Looking for new recruits

As for the job requirements listed, the ideal candidate must hold an academic degree, diverse life experience, good communication skills, flexible thinking and creativity, curiosity, and the ability to work individually and in a team as well as good command of second language. A preference, the ad noted, would be given to those with a background abroad and willingness to leave for an immediate mission abroad, right after the training period.

According to media reports, the publication of the assassins’ pictures exposed almost a third of the Mossad’s “Kidon” hit team. Whether or not the reports are true, the agency is surely in need for some new recruits.

In many high schools around the country, the covert operation has become the main topic of discussion, said a high school teacher from Ashkelon. “My students only want to talk about this story. They keep looking at the pictures of the agents and the videos from the hotel. They can talk about it for hours; each student offers their perspective – it truly excites them,” she said.

In a response on behalf of the Mossad, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “We do not respond to media reports pertaining to the organization.”

Excellent, maybe this will bring back the post-Zionists to become current-Zionists.

My father, a survivor, used to say “How I wish we add Uzis [a type of submachine gun] in the Warsaw ghetto.”

For the first time in many centuries, Jews are able to defend themselves.

Meanwhile, in the days preceding Purim, the new Haman of Persia / Iran is meeting with leaders of Hamas, Hizbullah, and Syrian terror groups–to plot how to destroy the Jewish people (not just the State of Israel–they want to kill each and every one of us, even the Neturei Karta nuts).

Are we doing anything to help our fellow Yidden, or just reading the news while we go about our lives?

i would have a feeling the mossad stays far away from people who dream of joining the “glamorous” lifestyle of a spy

I think this is something the mossad wouldn’t want… A public profile

The Mossad apparently recruits all sorts of people… Meanwhile, the Sherut Bitachon (aka Shin Bet, or Shabak) apparently successfully ‘ran’ the son of a radical sheikh for over a decade. Mosab Hassan Yousef reportedly thwarted many suicide bombings and saved dozens if not hundreds of Jewish lives.

It would be nice, of course, if Jonathan Pollard, abandoned by the Israeli government decades ago despite his work for the Mossad–which saved the lives of tens of thousbands–would receive more support in his bid for clemency from Barack Hussein Obama.

Regarding Yousef (who turned in his own father for terrorism): Will we as a community help him, for example by buying his newly released autobiography? Will we recognize him as among the Chasidei Umos HaOlam? Or will we continue to teach our children that all goyim are evil, etc?

Regarding our attitude to Israelis: Will we acknowledge the heroism and self-sacrifice of these valliant warriors in the shadows, including many frum operatives, but also who are many not-yet- religious (tinok she’nisha)? Or will we smugly make comments about their being ‘frei’ and sit comfortably in our shtetls, while they strive to protect Yidden?

Israeli government, IDF, and intelligence orgs have a terrible track record of protecting their informants that are not Jewish or Israeli. In Lebanon they turned their back on the Druze and the Lebanese Christians who helped and were on the side of the IDF. In Palestinian territories, they turn their backs on the Palestinian informants who risk their lives to help Israel fight terror.
At least the CIA pays in millions of dollars to valuable informants, but Israel doesn’t even pay their informants well. Look at Pollard, Kadish and other spies that were caught.

Uhh, you ever hear of the warsaw getto uprising?! Where they fought the German army for 3 weeks?
This is definitly not the first time Jews defended themselves in out history.
Now, there’s one more thing you need to understand, the Mossad & the Shabak agencies weren’t created to defend Jews like the partisans in eastern
Europe during the war, they’re here to take out threats made to the STATE of Israel, if they thought that you where a threat to their country, they wack you just as quick as any Arab threat.
    Peace

Its easier for American Jews to blame Pollard for his predicament than to admit they abadoned him for their own selfish reasons.
