Faisal Shahzad Washington – CBS News has learned that Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) is launching an inquiry into how Faisal Shahzad became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2009 despite multiple law enforcement investigations into his background over the last 10 years.

Grassley sent Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano a letter today asking for the “Alien” file for Shahzad and his family members and for everyone who has been a reference or a sponsor for the terror suspect.

An Alien or “A” file includes visa and travel history, financial and personal information as well as any derogatory information from law enforcement. Grassley wants to know if this file was in the hands of the official who approved Shahzad’s citizenship.

Grassley also wants Shahzad’s arrival forms that he filled out each time he re-entered the United States and whether or not he sponsored other individuals to become citizens.

CBS news reported Wednesday that Faisal Shahzad had appeared on a Department of Homeland Security watchlist between 1999 and 2008 because he brought $80,000 of cash into the United States.

The New York Times reported on May 4, 2010 that the man who bought a condo from Shahzad, six years ago in May 2004 was visited at that time by investigators from the Joint Terrorism Task Force who asked questions about Shahzad.

Grassley wants to know how Shahzad became a US citizen if there was so much scrutiny into his background over the last decade. Grassley wants the documents by May 11, 2010.

I don’t know if this is an obama policy fault, that this jerk became a citizen. But, if I was obama ,I would prepare a speech on prime time, and start talking TOUGH against T E R R O R. Because if he won’t his white house might be the next target from these crazy terrorists.

This seems silly on the surface, but may expose flaws in the system. There are many steps that need to be taken in order to become a citizen. I have a particular friend who is from the UK. He has been working legally in the US since 2003. He has been trying since then to get his Green Card, and due to a clerical error, he got bumped from the list a few years ago so he had to start over. The level of scrutiny over these people is huge. Government agents have visited his home, his employer, and recently demanded an explanation of $200,000 he brought into the US. The money was from his father-in-law’s estate (he passed away last year).

What may seem to you and I as suspicious “scrutiny” seems to actually be the normal operating procedure for people on the path to citizenship. This story really is a bit overblown. We, as citizens, would not tolerate such intrusions in our daily lives, but those on the path to citizenship have to.

I should also mention that these friends are NOT Muslims. These are red-headed Brits with nothing to hide.

When you are applying for citizenship you have to complete a questionnaire with all types of questions, like are you loyal to the U.S.? Did ever fought against the U.S.? Etc…
Since this nice Facebook looking fellow lied on his application, his citizenship should be revoked and his Miranda rights taken away and should be charged in a military court as an enemy combatant.
