State Police say the accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes just south of Exit 114 in Middletown Township.

Thirty passengers were on board, but police say only three suffered minor injuries. At least one lane was closed near the scene.

The Darkanu Bus Company, based in Lakewood, New Jersey owns and operates the bus that travels from Boro Park, Brooklyn to Lakewood.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The passengers some of them children were traveling to Lakewood, New Jersey, after attending a rabbi’s wedding in New Square, New York, according to a spokesman for the bus company, Darkanu.

Six people were reported suffering minor injuries, police said. Five of them were taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and one was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to Sgt. Stephen Jones of the New Jersey State Police.

Two people refused medical attention and the others, including the bus driver were uninjured, according to Bob Pfleger, spokesperson for the Middletown Emergency Medical Services Department. The passengers that were treated suffered back pain and neck pain, and one 12-year old boy sustained a broken nose, Pfleger said.

Driver fatigue is being investigated as a possible factor in the incident, police said. The driver was 35-year-old Yechiel Bruzda, of Brooklyn, who worked for the bus company, according to police.

The bus has since been righted, the passengers and driver have been transported away from the scene and traffic is slow in the area.

Heavy thunderstorms all night here in south and central New Jersey. Why did they have to drive during the worst part of the night? Maybe weddings should arrange for sleeping facilities overnight, to avoid such possibilities. We hear such stories every few months- wedding goes until late at night, carload or busload of sleepy drunk men driving all night to get back to the city.

It’s very sad wat happened and B”H nothing major occured. However, I agree that buses not be allowed to drive so late and being that square has taken upon themselves all the satmar takonos including bentshing at 11pm. and finishing wedding at 12am. the rebbe should be more considerate for all the outside new square guests and make sure he’s no different wen it comes to takonos if anything he’s the leader and finish early to allow guests to travel back in time and continue ve next day normally. I am a square but for yrs i don’t in to their weddings coz of the crazy hrs it finishes. the rebbe wouldn’t stay by mine either.

(Reply to #8 ) I personal drive a bus I know how people who drives cars who has no idea how a bus driver feels when cars cuts off the bus. Stoping a bus is not as easy like stoping a car. I had many complains from my office car drivers who called in. They don&#8 217;t even realize if they cars or you it self would had a call back # in back of car you would receive ten calls each day complaining. Sounds funny I know but that&#8 217;s the fact. Anyhow don&#8 217;t judge hashem on ever he does is letove. B&#8 221;h nothing serious. Besoires tovies

Accidents don’t just happen they are caused! Don’t be part of the cause. It’s funny having people make comments when they don’t know the facts. As someone with over 1,000,000 safe miles behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle, i can’t comment on this “CRASH” as i don’t know the facts yet. As far as the poster who says buses Should not be running late at night, you need to get into the real world. I personally like driving at night (when i have the choice) as there are less inexperienced drivers on the road and less traffic. Why waste a day traveling to montreal or Toronto when you can sleep on the bus and wake up there in the morning. If you don’t feel comfortable driving at night, that’s fine, however i am. Fatigued drivers should never get behind the wheel of any vehicle. As a matter of fact as you can see with the crash, a bus will hold up better than a car. Let’s just wait for the facts.

The safest way to travel is with a bus! The drivers are much more experienced then car drivers, they are doing this daily. If 3 cars would flip over and only minor injuries would happen then it wouldn’t be in the news because it always happens, but when a bus flips over, everybody is up with it because it doesn’t B”H happen very often. Car drivers don’t like buses because they are bigger and different and its makes them feel like they are making traffic slower, but think of the 30 to 55 people going with cars … Not only with there be more traffic but also this of how many bad drivers would be on the roads between them
The bus drivers work hard for a living, and are conroled

reply to # 16 First of all, Monsey/New Square bus is NOT OWNED by New Square. It’s owned by the Lunger family. Secondly, maybe Monsey tours was either busy and had no buses available OR they were more expensive than Darkeinu Bus. I am not implying that this is the reason that they chose Darkeinu, but as a general rule in the heimishe velt, when it comes to chartering(renting) buses a $ 10 or $ 20 difference in price is all it takes to choose between one company and another. Hence the price wars, ( which most people arent aware of) But in any case B”H it was nisim and nifllaos in this case. Boruch Hashem yoim yoim.
