The 25-year-old learned of the decision, by the National Parole Board, Monday morning after a 2-hour hearing at the Leclerc Institution in Laval, where he is currently serving his sentence.
He received the equivalent of a 7-year prison term on Feb. 12, 2009. With the time he served before being sentenced factored in, he had 40 months left to do and was denied an accelerated parole last summer.
His accomplice Azim Ibragimov, 27, of Kirkland, was sentenced in 2008 to a 4-year prison term and three years probation. He had 10 months left to serve when he was sentenced.
The pair were linked to the firebombing of Skver-Toldos Orthodox Jewish Boys School in Outremont in 2006 and the 2007 firebombing of the YM-YWHA Ben Weider Jewish Community Centre, also known as the Snowdon Y.
The parole board members who heard his case Monday morning told Bulphred he shouldn’t be stunned by their decision.
“You don’t recognize that you have a problem with violence,” one member said while describing Bulphred as intolerant and immature.
