Manhattan, NY – The Pakistani immigrant who tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison, a mandatory penalty that left him defiant as ever and the judge who sentenced him determined to send a message to anyone who might want to follow in his path.

Faisal Shahzad came to court to tell Americans he felt no remorse about his May 1 bombing attempt, and he sparred with U.S. District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum.
Cedarbaum said her sentence was very important “to protect the public from further crimes of this defendant and others who would seek to follow him.”
Shahzad, 31, defended his attempt to kill Americans. During his statement before sentencing, Cedarbaum cut him off at one point to ask if he had sworn allegiance to the United States when the Pakistan-born Shahzad became a citizen last year.
“I did swear but I did not mean it,” Shahzad said.
“So you took a false oath,” the judge told him.
Shahzad was arrested two days after a bomb in the back of a sport utility vehicle fizzled with a mere sputter of smoke, drawing the attention of a street vendor who alerted police.
Too bad they didn’t sentence him to death!
Why do American’s Tax Dollars have to go feed this piece of garbage?
waste of tax money. put a bullet in his head and finished.
#1 and #2 ,
You can’t administer a death sentence in the US where there were no dead victims.
It also costs far more to win a death penalty conviction and appeals than it does to put someone away in a Supermax for life.
Finally, it should be pointed out that the administration US Death Penalty does not meet even the lenient standards required for Noachide courts. Two different Orthodox rabbis have confirmed that a Jew should not sit on a jury in a capital case in the US. In urging a death penalty you are urging violations of halachah. That is not something that should be promoted on a frum site.
#1 $ 2…absolutely!!
#2 ……..you are 99% correct, sir. but you forgot to add that this mega piece of (in)human garbage must be made (or the family) to pay for the bullet(s).
I am an avid target shooter, and the cost of ammo is Not cheap, some of the custom bullets are close to $2.00 a piece. Why should the taxpayers foot the bill?
The craziest part of this? In prison, he will have all of his “religious” needs attended to, including time for prayer, access to a kuran, halal food, and others. The same “religion” that was the basis for his attack
May it be a short sentence….
