David Elias, 79, from Gants Hill, spotted the treif items in the Chingford branch. “I pointed this out to a member of staff and the assistant manager, who was less than interested,” he claimed. “I feel this matter should be brought to the attention of the Jewish community at large so they are vigilant when they shop at Costco.”

A Costco spokeswoman said: “It would appear that the offending meat item was left on top of the kosher cabinet by a member.

“Unfortunately members often change their mind about a purchase and leave the unwanted item in the nearest place rather than returning it to its point of sale.

“When the member who has written to you pointed out that this unwanted meat item had been left in the wrong place it was removed.”

However, Mr Elias pointed out: “The whole container was contaminated and they should be educated to what this means.

“They should have shut it down, not made excuses.”

Costco is for the birds.. really a terrible place and to make it worse, they discontinued carrying Ahava products after the marxist fringe nutjobs “women in pink” demanded costco stop carrying ahava products because “ahava employs workers in Israel’s occupied territories”..join B J Wholesale club if you really need 17 1/2 gallons of lighter fluid or 5 dozen strawberries or that monster sized bottle of Kedem grape juice (who has room for all this chazerei anyway?). but do yourself a favor and don’t patronize costco.

    what incredible stupidity!

Costco did nothing wrong, the container was not in any way “contanminated”, and any shopper who thought pork found in the kosher section of a non-frum store meant it was kosher obviously has no knowledge or even familiary with Kashrus.

#1 going along with your reasoning, if I miss minyan, can I order a cheeseburger?

Number 1 from your comment it seems you enjoy white meat. If it was halal and non
halal meat guarantee they would not mix it or it would be hell to pay. Why do Jews go against their own kind. I tell you a little story. Two Jews were arguing that the religious Jew block the Leftist kibbutz movements driveway [this was not in Israel] I was walking across the street and heard them fighting. The leftist said he was not going to let him out and the religious man apology 5 times. I cross the street and ask the leftist non religious Jew to please let him out he apology. He tell me how do you now I am Jewish ? I tell him because the way you were arguing in Ivrit. I told him the rest of the world hates the Jews; do we have to hate each other
He did an about face; immediately let the religious Jew out. From that time onward
until I move he continue to say hello whenever he saw me. He also acted different from than onward to other religious Jew. Now I repeat number 1 that was not called for.

all meat at Costco is in sealed packages so I don’t see what the problem is/was. It’s like any other supermarket (except that they call their customers members)–you pick up an item and change your mind–

or, worse, possibly, someone decided to have fun on our cheshbon and deliberately put the treif meat (which is always completely wrapped anyway) in the kosher section, either to give us grief or to give Costco a bad name.

If that’s the case, they succeeded.

    have a good day

I don’t understand those posters who somenow think that chazer fleish can ever have hashgacha. It is mamash treifus no matter which freezer cabinet is was left on. As long as it was sealed and the kosher meats were sealed, it may have offended this one ehrliche yid but there is no reason to take him seriously. Its an optics issue and if he doesn’t want to see chazerleish, shop only in heimeshe groceries and pay a lot more.+

Poster # 12 (GB_Jew); If you weren’t being sarcastic, just plain naive. Since Costco (I didn’t know that they operate in the UK.) is a “Buyers’ Club”, the customer are called “Members”.
