The head of Treviso airport is under investigation for erecting a sign several days ago at the entrance to the terminal building which said: “Flying sets you free”.
Prosecutors are examining whether this is an allusion to the iron sign above the entrance gate to Auschwitz which read: “Work sets you free”.
Prosecutor Antonio Fojadelli told ANSA that he was investigating a possible violation of racial hatred laws.
The sign was removed on Saturday morning, the report said.

Is it not somewhat peculiar that the source of this particular story should be the “MSN Philippines News”? Why would a Filipino reporter davka pick up on this particular story when no European news agency has?
Oh gosh! What a NON issue!!! The slogan is a cute one for flying. Too many people get offended over the stupidist things. Well, poor bubeleh, grow up you wuss!!!
Not sure what the reason was, but if it was really meant free free, he should’ve wrote ‘Jumping out of a plane sets you free,’
6, Like I said, dont be a wuss. Not everything has the connotation you think it does.
I believe that the actual translation of “Arbeit Macht Frei” is “Work MAKES one free”, not “Sets you free”.
I think that kvetching & being nit-picky will actually desensitize the general public.
