Moscow – Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar thanked Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for help extended by Russian Emergency Ministry in firefighting in North Israel on the state head’s instruction.

“It means much that Russian rescuers came to help when the catastrophe happened, that Russia sent most powerful airplanes, modern technique,” Lazar writes to Medvedev in his telegram as it text was conveyed to Interfax-Religion on Monday.
According to the rabbi, such help proves that “Russian state, multinational Russian people live not only with their concerns, but also care for health and prosperity of the whole world: if the trouble comes, Russia is always ready to help.”
The telegram also reads that the fire seized Mount Carmel district mentioned in Bible, where historical and holy places of Jews, Christians and Muslims are located.
“Eventually, it is a natural reserve that is important not for Israel but for the whole Middle East region. I am convinced that all citizens of the Jewish state regardless of their origin and religious views, pronounce the word “Russia” with gratitude,” the Jewish leader writes.
