An Associated Press reporter near the front saw an explosion with a giant yellow fireball Wednesday from the area of the Sidr oil facility, 360 miles (580 kilometers) east of Tripoli. Three columns of thick smoke rose from the area, apparently from burning oil.

Mustafa Gheriani, an opposition spokesman, says government artillery hit a pipeline supplying Sidr from oil fields in the desert. He says an oil storage depot was also hit, apparently by an airstrike.

For the past week, government forces and rebels have been battling around several key oil ports east — Brega, Ras Lanouf and Sidr.

Just the perfect storm for the major oil/gasoline suppliers to use as an excuse to raise prices even higher. Where is the great and mighty Obama on all of this? Why are our oil reserves not being tapped? I really hope that he keeps the US out of military involvement there. It is a civil war, and although they are an oil producer we should stay the hell out of their internal issues…just get our citizens out. The only time we the USA should act is if their war becomes an issue to the security of Israel. Just my humble opinion.

Allan, Obama actually WANTS gasoline prices to remain high and rise even higher. As do most liberals, reasoning that expensive gasoline will force us to drive less and share public transportation with all the undesirables.

He was actually asked about it in an interview last time when prices climbed to over $4/gallon, and he responded that he would rather prices grow slower so as not to be such great hardship, but he had no problem with the high price per se.

I have no doubt he wants our gasoline prices to be $10-$12/gallon as they are now in useless countries of England and France.
