West Bank – Settlers Vandalize, Set Fire to Mosque in Kasra

    16

A Palestinian man looks down on a graffiti of the Star of David spray painted on a wall of a mosque torched and vandalized by arsonists in the West Bank village of Qusra, near Nablus, Monday, Sept. 5, 2011. Arsonists tossed two tires into the first floor study hall of a new mosque in the West Bank village of Qusra and set them ablaze, Israeli and Palestinian officials said Monday. No one claimed responsibility for the blaze. But the proximity to the Migron demolitions raised suspicion that the mosque fire was what settlers call "price tag", namely, retaliation against Palestinians for actions the Israeli government takes against settlers. (AP Photo/Nasser Ishtayeh)West Bank – Settlers set fire to a mosque south of Nablus early Monday morning, in an apparent “price tag” attack following the earlier demolition of three homes in the Migron outpost, the Ma’an news agency quoted Palestinian sources as saying.

Ma’an quoted the sources as saying the settlers stormed the mosque in the West Bank village of Qusara, smashing glass and setting fire to a number of tires within the mosque.

Rabbis for Human Rights corroborated the report, saying that the building was also vandalized with graffiti and the fire damaged the first floor of the structure in which the mosque is housed, but did not destroy it.

The organization also speculated that the arson incident was a “price tag” attack in retribution for the demolition at  Migron. “Price tag” is a phrase right-wing settlers have adopted to signal retribution for any Israeli moves against settlement-outposts built without government authorization.

Police officers entered the mosque to retrieve forensic findings.

Police added that the mosque was not in use, and did not have holy books in it.

Did anyone notice the last sentence? ” Police added that the mosque was not in use, and did not have holy books in it.” This was a show of “price tag” violence without really hurting anyone.

    If it’s true, it’s inexcusable

The incident has been affirmed by several Israeli media sources and is consistent with what the settlers have threatened to do whenever the police destroy illegal structures and buildings in the west bank. Their intention is to punish the Palestinians for the actions of the security forces in the hope that it will trigger retaliation and more violence. If their intent is to “make the government pay”, why don’t these fanatical settlers burn yiddeshe mosdos and shuls since the Palestinians in these cases have done nothing to warrant this vandalism and arson?

Has anyone been arrested? Charged? Any leads on suspects? Not according to this article. Based on the info provided in this article, the mosque was not used and there were no “holy” books in there. Now, imagine yourself as a “fanatical, crazy, right wing” settler, why would you go through all the trouble to vandalize this mosque and risk being caught and lynched by the arabs or beaten by the Israeli police? The answer is that they wouldn’t. They would most likely vandalize an active mosque that contained “holy” books as this would inflict more damage and send a greater message. Now, put yourself in an arab mind frame. If you wanted to embarrass the Israelis and show that they are religious fanatics and racists, what better way then to “vandalize” an out of commission mosque, its win win. You wouldn’t be affected because the mosque is not used any way and nothing “holy” has been destroyed, it will make the Israelis look bad and maybe the Israeli government will even help with reconstruction and funding. And all this will also “coincidentally” occur within days of an important UN vote.

I’m not saying that this is what happened. All I’m saying is that people shouldn’t believe and accept everything they read/hear/see in the news.

If this were a shul you could be sure it would be on CNN and BBC. It would be called a kristalnacht. So why the silence?
