Manama, Bahrain – Thousands of demonstrators chanting anti-government slogans have thronged a Bahrain funeral of an elderly man who witnesses say died from tear gas inhalation.

Amir al-Mouali says his 73-year-old neighbor, Abdulali Ali Ahmed, was taken to a hospital Saturday morning after struggling to breath during a night of heavy clashes near his home along a main highway outside the capital.
Al-Mouali says Ahmed died Saturday evening.
In a statement Sunday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said Ahmed died of natural causes.
On Saturday, police fired tear gas at protesters along the Budaiya highway, which connects Shiite villages west of Manama, the capital. The demonstration has been going on for three days.
Bahrain’s minority Shiites have been demanding more rights from the Sunni monarchy.
