New Yorkers may soon be able to get a bigger tax deduction for mass transit expenses, Sen. Charles Schumer said Sunday in a news conference.

Commuters will be able to deduct up to $240 each month under a Senate version of the transportation bill, expected to pass Tuesday. Schumer is hopeful House lawmakers will add the provision to their bill, and make it retroactive to Jan. 1.

If the bill passes, about 500,000 New Yorkers will be affected. The Transit Center, a non-profit group, estimates that New York riders saved $200 million last year because of the legislation.

Lets stop larding up the tax code with these special subsidies and tax credits. Instead of simpifying the tax code, we keep making it more complicated with more handouts for special interests such as mass transit users.

Dont give me the tax break, just STOP the construction and the hikes. I want o get to work on time.

There are no Manhattan trains every second week and no cony Island trains every other second week. This week its cony island, last week was Manhattan.

They are digging the hole bigger and bigger by trying to make everyone happy by bribing them. The truth is that nothing major has been repaired in the last two years of construction, its just union jobs. Now they will shut every one up by handing out a minimal $250.00 tax break, so that they could continue this bridge to no where. Next year they’ll raise the fairs again and the MTA taxes again, so no one really gains anything.
