Las Vegas – Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas billionaire who has been the biggest backer to a group supporting Newt Gingrich, said this week that Mr. Gingrich had reached “the end of his line” in his bid for the presidency.

Mr. Adelson, whose family has contributed more than $15 million to a “super PAC” supporting Mr. Gingrich, made the comments in a brief interview with The Jewish Journal at the Venetian resort in Las Vegas.

After singing Mr. Gingrich’s praises, Mr. Adelson responded to a reporter’s comment that the candidate was not likely to be the Republican presidential nominee.

“No, no. I know. I know. It appears as though he’s at the end of his line,” Mr. Adelson said. “Because mathematically, he can’t get anywhere near the numbers, and there’s unlikely to be a brokered convention.”

The acknowledgement came even as The Washington Times reported on Thursday that Mr. Gingrich had secretly met with Mitt Romney in Louisiana over the weekend.

The paper quoted Mr. Gingrich as saying that “there is no agreement of any kind, and I plan to go all the way to Tampa,” where Republicans will hold their national convention at the end of August.

Mr. Adelson has a right to do whatever he wants with his money, he can burn a pile of it in a bonfire if he desires. I just think how much good that more than $15 million could have done for something or someone that really needed it. What a waste that was.

He’s intelligent yet so slow. Everyone else knew Gingrich was finished many months ago.

Why don’t you all get it?
He accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. He knew all along that Newt’s chances are slim but he pumped him up out of nowhere.
Future candidates and politicians alike will know on who’s good side to stay….

I guess since Mr. Gingrich’s money came mostly from Sheldon the casino mogul, this is the point where Newt Craps out.

Gingrich has lost all respect among Republicans who now regard him a an egotistical clown who may have cost them the 2012 election by forcing Romney to expend time and resources fighting his challenge. Adelson never had any so nothing to lose.

I’m just trying to think of one reason why Newt would want to stay in the race as everyday he is in it, he is making himself look worse, not to mention he is getting heavier in debt. With each passing day he is also coming across more desperate if what he says is any indication. And so what is it that’s keeping him in the race? Unless maybe its the secret service security detail….

Sheldon Adelson has done more for Obama’s re-election campaign than anyone else in America. It just goes to show you that wealth is in no way related to intelligence.

Thanks Sheldon. We Conservatives are embarrased and humiliated by you. You may as well have been donating money to Mickey Mouse! The only ELECTABLE candidate the Republicans have was torn to pieces by your money. Today, Obama is the victor in nearly every hypothetical poll. In fact, he is well ahead of where Bush 43 was at this stage.

    What a shame.
