Beer Sheva – The fourth day of the holiday drew large numbers of travelers out of their homes, but those who chose to visit the Beersheba zoo found closed gates. The zoo was open for the haredi public only, visitors argued, without any prior notice. A small sign on the zoo’s gate confirmed the allegations, while the zoo’s management insists that entrance to the zoo was not limited.

Avigail Kanterovich, who arrived at the zoo with her family, friends and their children and only after a long argument they were allowed entrance. “We were furious. They let us wait in the sun for 20 minutes, and no one came to talk with us.” According to her, only later the management put up a sign stating the entrance was restricted to haredim only. Eventually they were allowed in the zoo.
The zoo’s manager explained that the site was closed due to a special event for the Orthodox public, but everyone who wished to enter could do so if appropriately dressed.
Were the animals dressed tzeniusdik?
Were the animals separated by gender?
Were the men allowed to look at the female animals?
this is terrible.people have to learn how to deal with others who are not exactly like them and especially they need to teach this to their children.we’re all jews for goodness sakes!
We really need to have events where Charedim are not permitted. Make the buses Chilonim-only. Have market days where only Christians are permitted. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.
“Israel – Only Haredim Allowed Entry To Beersheba Zoo”
And we poke fun and ridicule at the religious fundamentalists in Iran and in Saudi Arabia. Hashem yerachem.
Disney World has “Gay Days” that is much worse
What you did not report was that the zoo was segregated by gender. Is this the frum lifestyle we want that families cannot enjoy the zoo together? If that is the future I am out of here.
What the article fails to report is that the regular residents of the zoo sponsored the private event so that they could have an opportunity to watch the behamos on a low key basis.
The only ones not dressed tzniusdic were the animals. Want to join them?
But did they let them out again?
Nobody asked the question, HOW MUCH did they PAY the zoo for renting for the day? Remember, it is a public place, belonging to the State!! Did they pay anything?
This was a private day for a group who rented the zoo for the day. This happens all over the world, in the USA, in England to mention just two countries. The Beersheva Zoo did the same, so what is all the fuss about? If the Israel Electric Workers Union had rented the Zoo for the day and people who are not members of the Israel Electric Workers Union were told the zoo was closed, who would dream of complaining? A lot of fuss over nothing simply because it was a haredi group the paid for the day.
I can’t possibly believe this story as is. There must be more to this. As reported, it defies any logic whatsoever.
Were there separate entrances to the zoo for men and women?
It was also open to the lions tigers monkeys and all other zoo animals and zoo workers. Great Achdus!, not
And what happens when summer camps reserve a venue for their camp only? How is that different? Maybe it was the fault of the zoo that they didn’t post the appropriate sign. Why are you immediately faulting and making fun of the community?
Is it the zoo venue that bought out all the Charedi bashing animals?
