According to the Department of Parks and Recreations, 108 tickets have been issued so far this year. That’s more than in all of 2011.

The Wall Street Journal says 84 summonses were issued between last May, when the ban went into effect, and the end of the year.

The ban, which carries a $50 fine, covers 43 square miles of parks, public plazas, beaches and boardwalks.

The increased enforcement comes as Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday introduced legislation that would require residential buildings to adopt smoking policies and disclose the information to apartment seekers.

The city banned smoking in restaurants and bars in 2002.

    Exactly as I predicted.

He promised not to police it when he enacted it, it was more for awareness he said.

Big deal, $50 for a Cig, that’s what were paying anyway… Next time I see a park and a cop in it, I will ask him for a light.

    B”H!

I hope they keep ticketing until this despicable and unhealthy habit is merely history. It saddens me to see Chassidish young men in BP smoking as if there’s nothing wrong with doing so.

I also saw another Jew smoking in front of his wife, as they were loading groceries into the car. He probably promised that he would quit after they got married. So much for that “new year’s resolution”, and their whole family’s health is at stake, Hashem Yiracheim, because this guy engages in this disgusting and very dangerous habit.

Nobody has any right to smoke in a public area because there is no safe level of second-hand smoke.

Why is smoke of tobacco more dangerous then smoke of an engine cars trucks busses Mayor Dictator Bloodberg. Should ban any kind of smoke. If someone doesn’t like smoke go live in a dessert
