Albany, NY – Son of Sam serial killer David Berkowitz has been denied parole by New York authorities for the sixth time.

A parole board concluded on Tuesday his release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would undermine respect for the law.
The Son of Sam terrorized New York City in 1976 and ’77 and took responsibility for a string of handgun assaults. He was convicted of fatally shooting six people and injuring several others.
Berkowitz is 58. The former Yonkers resident is serving 25 years to life at the maximum-security Sullivan Correctional Facility northwest of New York City.
He’s been in prison 35 years. He’s eligible for another parole hearing in two years.
The parole board notes his “significant prison ministry,” clean disciplinary record and expression of remorse.

Does that mean that to have a non-Jewish brain makes one more likely to be a killer or pathological miscreant? Does Levi Aaron have a non-Jewish brain? Bernie Madoff? Avaham Mondrowitz? What about all the crooks and sex abusers and n the frum community? Conversely, does Bill Gates have a “Jewish brain”? Stephen Hawking? Warren Buffet? George Will? What about the countless nuclear physicists, heart and brain surgeons, etc. who are not Jewish? Did someone sneak them a “Jewish brain”? We really sound like Nazis in reverse with this primitive tribalism we always place on display here. And then to suggest that someone is a killer because he may be a “mamzer”? So if someone has a Jewish birth mother but was born out of wedlock, it somehow makes it more understandable that he became a serial killer? Now you know why most Jews want nothing to do with frumkeit? It’s because we frum Jews constantly look like ignoranyt, prejudiced, hypocrtiical buffoons.
The truth is he did what he did, regardless of whether he is Jewish or not. Again, my question is, if he was not Jewish, then everything is ok? Why do we always go to this as if we can’t tolerate one of our own doing anything wrong and we seek to distance the relgion from such a person.
The main point to me is that he did what he did because he was mentally ill and in need of medication. He should have been judged as insane at the time and now he could be judged on what whether he is sane or not now and it appears that he is now sane. Also don’t forget that Hashem forgive all people if they seek it, even murderers.
Nonetheless, in the interest of society I support keeping him out of the general population.

I frequently visit that facility. I have had the zchus of seeing this very worthy individual with his galach in the visiting room, with new testaments open. So there is your answer.
This article omits most of the details of the Son of Sam’s murders. Such as…he was suffering from schizophrenia, and since then he’s been given medication, and, in fact, has ~requested that his parole be denied because he doesn’t think he deserves anything but prison for his sins.
And his devotion is admirable, regardless of the religion!
