Federal regulators and the plant owner said the Wednesday morning shutdown of Indian Point 2 went safely. They said there were no injuries and no release of radioactivity.
Officials said that when the generator malfunctioned, there was no use for the steam produced by the reactor. As a result, the reactor shut down automatically.
Plant owner Entergy Nuclear said Indian Point 3, the other reactor at the plant in Buchanan, kept operating. It said it was searching for the cause of the generator problem.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said its inspector was on the scene.
Entergy is seeking new 20-year licenses for the reactors, which the state and some environmental groups oppose.
This morning around 8-8:30 AM, there was a prominent column of steam leading up all the way to the clouds (which were forming as a result of the steam).
Good. The system did exactly what it was supposed to do. Unlike many humans.
